what's with the tinted rectangular thing on the engine cover?

I believe the name Wellcraft should be inside the rectangle.

is it a window to see if there is an engine fire or not before you open it? I've got the same engine. 170 HP out of a 3.7L 4 cyl. Not bad....Goes good and sips fuel. 20 hp more and you start getting into 6 & 8 cylinders....fuel mileage starts to drop off like carzy.

Wrong!!!, i changed from that 470 to a 4.3 merc.(185 hp.) and it does 32 mph and it's better on fuel that a toyota.
