    Reds

This time of year, low winter tides, reds like to habitat in coastal creeks. Feed on fiddler crabs and congregate in holes between mud banks and oyster bars. It’s low now, I wanna go so bad it is plain ludicrous…

    Getting cold!

Heater gave up in my trailer last night. 56 inside prompted me to find the space heater. We only got down to 44.

Sadly the draw of people to the coastlines has created one hell of an issue with insurance and flood plain restrictions on construction. The latter being a good thing. If you want insurance the height of your floor here is 14’ above mean high tide. That is considered the 100 year flood plain...

So in the past 45 years we had three floods that put water in the structure. She is a swimmer. Let’s hope I have seen the last flood. Or worse. So in other words hope and prayer as a plan.😳🤪🤣

You could put anything up for sale. Nothing is selling except cheap junk. I have a house inland, this is just a fish camp. If it floods again I’ll deal with it then. And Why would I get mad at you? That’s sound advice. I’m probably nuts for doing it in the first place. But at the same...

    1975 Wellcraft V20 steplift / Re-Build... Again?

I removed my cap, did a lot of work to hull and cap, made it a full transom, added a bracket. Tons of work but I love the boat. So much so, I had two larger boats during the remake of the 1983 20v center console. 23’ Whaler (handled like meatloaf) and a 22’ Pursuit Cuddy. Neither one...

I got busted breaking kerfew. About 4 days into cleanup, no water or electricity, I woke and decided to drive to town for coffee. I didn’t get far. Roadblock with 10 weary officers. Wanted to know where I was going at 4:30am. I said coffee. He shot me a look and asked sarcastically,”Your...

Leveled the old firehouse that was concrete block. Went through the restaurant and general store. The former rebuilt and reopened.

Phat It was all storm surge. Wind driven water 9’ above what would be a normal tide level. Most stilt homes were ok in Suwannee. Just up the coast the residents were not as lucky. Wind and water toppled some stilt homes and eroded foundations.

    Speckled Trout & Mullet

OMG - THE MULLET RUN - if I recall correctly we are in the same latitude Phat. In my 45 years of fishing the big bend I have never seen such a run of mullet. The canals were absolutely stacked with them. For the first time I saw snook and tarpon in the canal in back of the house. They...

    Raising Transom

The stringers are actually cut down at an angle as they near the transom so the splashwell that is also angled down kinda lays on top of those stringers. Definitely post some pictures. I wrote all that, not sure the year, this is true of 80’s models in any case

    Outboard horsepower

I do agree that some overpowering makes boating dicey. Some hulls don’t react as well as others to major hp

    Outboard horsepower

Ok not the same, but look, the gun doesn’t kill people by itself. A little self control goes a long ways. They sell cars that go three times the legal posted speed, it’s a risk. I’ll leave it there

800 hp on 21’ boat. Just about right😂

F the insurance companies and the govt too. The water is the last place we have no speed regulations, I’m all for keeping it that way. Boating has some inherent risk, that’s a given. Manufacturers put the plate on the boat so they can sell them to the public and qualifies them to receive some...

Staples rusted on that wire next door. Would have never rusted if the floods had not happened. Moving the 9x18 shed by myself was a hoot. Electric underground, well it was, kept the shed from moving off-site.

True, so true. I paid $16.96/ea for 1x6x8 pine. It wasn’t #2, it was a select grade from Home Depot. Ouch!!! But it was beautiful.. I tried to build back as if I were building a house not a trailer. No melamine board, pressed wood or anything that will fall apart when and if it ever floods...
