8/28/07 Block Island trip with Pics

We started out late and didn't launch until 9 AM. Got out to Block Island at 9:45 and joined in the armada of boats fishing the south side of the island. We drift fished eels for some stripers and did that unsuccessful for two and a half hours without one single hit. We then started trolling around the island with umbrella rigs and nothing. It was like the ocean was dead. We stopped by a few boats and asked how they were doing and it was the same story, ZILCH.  :-/   We gave it hell somemore and by 1 PM we decided to head over to Charlestown Breachway for some fluke. We did get two keepers but that was it. All in all it was a gorgeous day on the water despite the lack of fish and we ended up putting on 45.3 miles total from start to finish. Block Island is beautiful and at least now we will know where to go next time. Here are some pics of our day.

This is the new Block Island Ferry boat, it is a catamaran hull and it flies! the boat was throwing a rooster tail at least 150 feet back and what a wake!

Re: 8/28/07 Block Island trip

Nice pics!! And even though the lack of fish, still sounds like you guys had a blast!

Thanks Sean. We did have a blast indeed and the scenery was beautiful to say the least. When we came around the south side of the island it looked like an armada of boats. Boats were everywhere and we all thought that this must be the place for sure to catch fish. One oldtimer we talked with said it's been slow there, but it usually turns back on in mid Sept. thru late Oct. for stripers. So we are excited about the perspective. Also when we were coming back into Point Judith we seen a V-20 with a guy all alone in it and he was wearing the new V-Tee! I waved to him and yelled but he wasn't friendly at all >:( he was in a V that had black bottom paint and a brown/tan bimini top. I know he must be online here with us but no telling who the hell he is ??? I thought all V owners were friendly, but it appears I was wrong :-/ Oh well, cest las vie ::)

Nice pics. On a day like that, fish are just a bonus if you get em, being on the water is the reward.

I bet that guy that wouldn't wave was a Yankee. ;D

Beautiful pictures. Does Block island have allot of folks living on it?  Looks like a sweet place.

I just googled it and as of the 2000 census for Block Island (town of New Shoreham) the population was 1,010. :) I would love to live there but I am certain that it would take some "BIG BUCKS" to buy or even build there, if that's even possible. The scenery was breathtaking and we kept saying,"if I could only win Megabucks or Powerball." :-/

Randleman, I bet indeed he was a Yankee! I was yelling and blowing my horn at him and I even stood up and pointed to my back, because I had on my V-Tee and this guy wouldn't even acknowledge us whatsoever ::) He must belong to this site because where else would he get the same exact V-Tee as we all have ???

A unfreindly RI V owner :o :o Say it ant so!! :-/

There are actually allot of V20 around here, last Sat. I think we counted around 6, and one drift by LandsEnd there were 5 boats, and three of them were V's!!
If I see suspected V20 with the tan top, I will be sure to raise the skull&cross bones, board his boat, and remove the T-shirt!! Thats just not right ;) ;D

Was out last night, and the ocena was full of silver sides & sand eels, they were so thick it looked like it was raining out!! Then when the sun started to set we were sourounded by criill (I thnk thats how you spell it ???)

Krill ::)

I was close ;D ;D

Sunday looks like the day this weekend...
good luck dodgeing the holiday crowds!! :o

Nice pics Shawsee. Sorry to hear that guy was a d!ck to ya--he probably just moved up to a V20 from a 87 bayliner capri! What goes around comes back around! ;)

Baggie eyed clam diggers!!! :o >:( I saw that same guy with his boat on trailer with MA plates ;D

Wait, I just got back in from digging clams (litle knecks) ::)
OK MJ, I guess you are right ;D
