Anyone add an axle to their trailer? I 'd like a tandem, would feel more comfortable on long trips. I am not sure it worth it or just look for a tandem trailer. Heres what i got

Oh you can see the amount of bottom paint I got off in an hour with a simple scrapper. not easy but cheap.

I helped a buddy repair his and due to the cost of parts and the time it took not to mention the bruised nuckles and soar backs I would say sell yours and buy one that's already set up. I'm not sure were you live but here in Va. you also need brakes on on a tandem plus they have to have a yearly state inspection. :(

I agree with Mac and 2nd, Lots of work and money, you should be able sell yours and break even or not have to add much.

Looked at a new venture trailer. Pretty much the same as the trailer I got, but tandem with brakes and aluminum $2400. That too much for a trailer. i am always apprehnsive with used cause you can dump $400-500 into tires, brakes, bearings etc.. Guess I'll have to keep my eyes open for a deal.

Thats not bad! I paided $2400 2 years ago for a Load-Rite with no brakes and steel.
But I did not want any brakes any way, to mush a hassle!

It can be done.......but.....

by the time you pick up an axle, spring hangers, springs, equalizers, wheels & tires, bearings, hubs, and a case of beer you've spent at least $700.

The other "but" is that the straight section of your frame rails may not be long ehough to mount the axles?

Having just pulled a tandem axle for 200 miles I highly recommend them. Much better pulling than single axle.

Buy the new one, you cant take that money with you.

That $2400 price is GOOD for new alum. tandem w/brakes...

...like others, I think leave yours as is...keep good tires/ air/ bearings/etc til you find tandem you like...
