Anti siphon valve……

So I’ve been hitting it with liquid wrench every other day for about a week now. Lightly tapping it with a hammer hoping to shock the threads into sucking some of that penetrant in. Took a wrench to it yesterday and it’s on there pretty good. I have to imagine it’s the original 30 year old hardware.
I don’t want to gorilla this thing off because I figure if I damage the fitting on the tank (plastic), I’m done for.
I’m gonna go down today and repeat the process of spray, tap and twist. If it doesn’t give, I’ll do it again tomorrow and every day until something gives.
Unless anybody has a better idea…. I’m all ears.

Take your new bulb and a couple of pieces of fuel line down to boat. Hook up to tank and pump into a jar

If it flows ok, clamp off fuel line downstream of bulb. Then pump till ball is pressurized and see if it holds

You might be fixing a problem you don***8217;t have

I dought its the anti Siffon valve fitting, if you loosened the fuel cap and still had the problem then I would look for another issue . I think your over thinking the problem
Think of this. The fuel goes from the tank to the engine using a hose so if your bulb is callapsing that means there is a blockage Change the primer ball. See if you can pull the pickup tube out of the rank, their might be blockage on the end of the tube. Last but not least. Change the fuel line You might have something floating in the fuel tank that gets caught on the tube. .
Try running it on a portable fuel tank and see if it goes away. If you still have the problem than wait for Spareparts .

Hmm, I think I saw a fuel cap that is also a vent built into it, but I'm not sure. Check google or wait for Spareparts
Hey Charlie I'm not on Facebook anymore, I don't know how to delete my Facebook so I unfriended everyone,
The best thing I did. Why don't you try running it on a portable fuel tank? That will narrow it down . If it still callapsing then the primer ball is the enemy.

I also remember seeing a bunch of crap on the bottom of the tank after we pumped it out. Didn’t get a real good look because we had to peak through the hole for the sender. From what I could see, there was a ton of grit and sediment on the tank floor. This leads me to believe it could very well be the pickup. I got the whole fitting to turn a bit yesterday which is what I don’t want. I’m gonna put a large adjustable wrench on the fitting itself and a smaller wrench on the actual valve and see if I can crack it like that. Probably shoot it with penetrant a couple more days as I’ve already missed this weekend anyway. Also, I’m gonna drive out east again and swap out the new rod I bought for a different, slightly more expensive one. Then, another $30 or so bucks for line and braid. At this rate, I’ll be fishing again around 2026.

Charlie the tune. I used to Fish every weekend Every Week End. Than I bought a boat , the rest is history.
Now I fish once a month and work on my boat. Every week end. Every Week End. Got it?

I went through all that and after I replace the fuel line from tank back to the motor my issues went away for good.

Hey Blue, I hear you but Charlie says it's very difficult to replace the fuel line and he also said there is a lot of crud I. The bottom of the tank . That's the enemy
1st. Replace the fuel line
2nd remove the fuel and clean the inside of the tank
Or like I advise him. Run it on a portable tank and see what happens.

from my experience, do it all and be done with it. Pull the pickup from the tank, replace it, if its got a plastic tube, they work loose at the aluminum fitting and suck air. Install a new anti siphon valve(lowest vacuum setting you can find), run new fuel line, install a new water separating fuel filter, new fuel line to teh primer bulb, new line from teh bulb to teh engine. If the engine has a quick disconnect, remove it and plumb teh fuel line directly to teh fuel filter on teh engine. 2-3 hours labor

That’s the plan but I’m having a hard time breaking the valve from the fitting on the tank. I tried to turn the valve and the fitting turned with it. I’m gonna try to get a wrench on the fitting and turn the valve against the fitting. I’m hoping I can get a wrench on that fitting. This is turning into a big job.

Ok, I got it out. The valve I took out seems to be in decent condition but as it’s out and most likely 30 years old, I’ll replace it for $12 bucks.
So when I replace the 90 degree fitting into the tank and the valve into the fitting, should I use Teflon tape? Teflon paste? What sealer, if any should I use?
I couldn’t identify what was on there. It was old and crusty.
Also, west marine gets $9.29 per foot for new fuel line. I see marine grade line on eBay for $3-$5 bucks a foot. Should I splurge and get the $$$ stuff, or is it all pretty much the same??

As far as the fuel line, spare would be more up on that.
There is a Teflon paste that is fuel rated, normal plumbing paste is not. The stuff I use comes in a blue can and is bluish in color. Probably no difference, just cost a little more. Should be able to go to auto parts store and get a small tube of it.

so as cheap insurance, i picked up a new anti siphon valve. cost me $12 bucks and now i'm halfway there. blasted compressed air through the pickup tube and cleaned out the screen. i'll pull the starboard rod box and check the tank vent hose. clean that and the vent hardware and hopefully not have to replace that at $40 bucks. gonna pull the batteries to get to the filter/water separator and the fuel line and bulb. the worst part for me is gonna be the length of fuel line from the bulb to the motor. it's in that big a$$ hose protector and i haven't even looked at that yet. i don't know how it comes off/opens up.
in any case, i hope to be tossing live killies to dolphin by this time next week. i bought a medium action shimano trevala for the 3500 slammer IV and i have 300 yards of power pro 20 pound braid arriving some time this week.
cross your fingers, gents. a few more hours and a few more bucks and we should be cooking with oil.
