Dbetterred,

I noticed you are from Rhode Island and wanted to ask you if you fish out at Block Island? I always see a V-20 out there whenever I am fishing the Block so I was curious if it was you perhaps. I launch my boat out of Point Judith and I sometimes will see a V-20 there at the launch.

Yep, I fish at block and put in at point judith when we go to the island. I normally use the ramp at oakland beach, for fishing in the bay. I'm always pulling the boat with a blue nissan pathfinder, soon to have v20 stickers on both rear side windows:beer:. Come say hi if you see me.

Went out april 16th. Mainly for a shakedown run, but took some crabs, of course. The water was only 46-47 degrees so just too cold for the toggies to show up yet. It was pretty rough and windy so we only fished a couple places for about three hours. not even a tap. I'll be out this weekend hopefully.

I'm seeing lots of dandelions.:sun:

ive been looking for the dandelions up here and havent seen any yet. from what ive heard water temps are lagging a bit and everyone is complaining about burning fuel and the fishing being slow. this is my weekend to work so there will be no fishing for me but ill be on it hot and heavy next weekend provided i get that killing a turkey thing out of the way some morning before then. tight lines and thanks for the report, andy

Dbettered,

I tow with a 95 red Dakota and I will surely keep an eye out for you the next time I am there. I haven't taken my V out of the barn yet this year, but this week is the week. We are planning on hitting the opening of the fluke season. Doing a trip on Monday May 2 weather permitting. The way Rhode Island lowered the length limit, maybe this year we will be able to get more keepers! We were throwing back fish last year 19" & 20" that were fat healthy fluke. This year with the 18 1/2" and 7 fish I hope on doing good unlike the last three years. Soon the stripers will be back in full force out at the Block and you can always catch me near Black Rock on the south side of the island. We did very well last year trolling with lead core and T-Man Tubes. Them fat lazy cows can't resist a slow moving tube with a fat sea worm on the hook!

See you on the water.

When at block we are normally bumping eels off the bottom in the black rock or ledge area. I'm looking forward to flukin' this year with the lower size limit. Last year was not that great, we had a lot of shorts. We did real well the year before though. I have a fishing buddy that got back from being deployed to gitmo and he is super stoked for fishing this year. So we will be on the water as much as possible. He was fishing every weekend while deployed in cuba, must be nice!

I see enough v20's on the water, I always wonder who they are. I am thinking about printing out some boat pictures from the gallery of the boats that may be in my area, and using it as a cheat sheet when on the water. I can never remember who anyone is, even if I think I recognize the boat.

Hey Shawsee..can you tell me more about T-Man Tubes....we troll lead-line down here in the hot summer time and always on the look out for killer striper lures to pull...pics and where to get if you can...THANKS!!...

Reel,

T-Man tubes have worked the best for me as far as tubes go. I have tried many brands, LeTube,Santini, etc. and non have produced like the T-man Tube. The Tman's are a smaller diameter tube and the way they turn and roll when trolled slow triggers strikes. I always thought tube & worm was a joke, until my buddy told me about T-Man Tubes, and I am sold on the product. Before T-Man's I never caught squat trolling tube & worm and now we hook up constantly with them.

I have had the best luck with the T-Man Snake in ebony & scarlet color. Also the black color snake works well and believe it or not the " bubble gum" color will bring them to the boat also. They make a few different varieties of tubes to suit your specific needs. Like I said I prefer the "snakes" which are 24" versus the 15" version. Trolling tube and worm is my favorite go to set-up when everything else just isn't getting it.

I troll very slow when using this type of set-up, 1mph/2mph. I try and keep the speed at a steady 1.5mph which seems to be the sweet spot for trolling these tubes. If we are fishing in 30 feet of water over structure we let out 6 colors of leadcore and just let the tube lazily bounce of the bottom while trolling.

We buy the T-Man Tubes at Cabela's in Hartford Ct. You can check if you have a local Cabela's in your area to see if they carry them there. Or you can order them directly from T-Man on their website http://www.tmancustomtackle.com/ I do not work for T-Man but I am more then willing to give them a good review because the tubes work great. I hope this info helps REEL, and nice seeing you again!

Thanks, Shawsee!!...I gonna go ahead and get some for the coming hot summer...in the colors you suggest...including Bubble Gum!!...

Looks like a good ball-bearing swivel will be needed w/these....

Reel,

I use SPRO Power Swivels 230 lb. test and I like to use a 5' to 6' Fluorocarbon leader. We tip the hook up here with sea worms or squid strips and we also use the Uncle Josh Pork Rinds that are red/white color. Also Gulp Alive sea worms can be used to tip the hook with. All in all I find the best method is using the sea worms because they just work the best I think.
