Diesel Outboard

I saw it at lake Kissimmee a few months back. It has potential. Definitely loud and unnatural sounding for an outboard. And It is Huge. The cowl is the size of a v-8 OMC. It stood out among the sea of Mercury outboards. They definitely picked a beamy boat to do their testing.

Ferm i can't say what i want to say about that ugly a** outboard lol. Lets just say its the same thing my buddy said when he went to pic up his new truck with the rocky ridge package and he saw all the chrome they put on it.

I think it's obvious they have hit some snags... the last press release was over 3 years ago. That's a lot of time to bring it to market. Still, it does have potential... gotta love the GPH ratings..:head:

wonder why the version of the outboard in the 5th of the 6 videos is so much slimmer and taller than the other outboards. Both have 3.0 litre on the cowl, but the taller, slimmer model appears to be an inline 4 while the squat, wide version appears to be more of a V or horizontal inline configuration.

Nipper I think it is the same motor with a different camera angle. Video 5 and 6 were taken by a guy standing up in front of console. Other rearward facing video is shot from the drivers perspective down low. I noticed the same thing. The boat in video 5 and 6 looks narrow too, I wonder if that has something to do with the video camera settings. EDIT- Article says they have two sizes 2.3 liter and a 3.0 liter.
Can't go wrong using the Merc mid lower and trim. Good and durable. Can you imagine the obstacles to bringing this to the market?
I would think these guys are waiting for someone with greenbacks to come along and infuse some much needed dough and lead them into production. As for long term testing, better test for durability now than release it and use the buyers as guinea pigs.
It would make a really neat water tractor.. I want mine with dual stacks and a tuner.

Last I read from them, they were trying to find some gears for the lower unit to make it perform properly. The diesel turns atmuch lower RPM's, so stock MERC gears weren't working out the best. Also emissions is a REAL nightmare to deal with because of the new regs for off road engines that recently went into effect.

Yes Ferm but the 22' Bay boat was being pushed i believe 32 mph! At 3500 rpm! Lets see a gas outboard do that. Now i would pay $12000 for that outboard.

Ridge Runner you took the words out of my mouth. I was about to suggest stacks.

i thought i saw a yanmar diesel outboard at the miami boatshow in the mid to late 80's.

maybe not, it was miami and the go go 80's

Did you notice on their webpage that they are offering to sell the intellectual property and manufacturing rights? Sounds like they are fed up with it.
