WOW!! I have heard that the pond near my house has them, but have never fished for them before, or eat them, are they any good? whats the best way to catch them??

Congrats!

Just like he said MJ, small jigs with bright colored artificials, small ones or minnows, also small.
They are delicious, I used to scale em with a table spoon I filed to have a semi sharper edge to scrape them. Batter and deep fry whole.
wonderful.

And "C" Money I see where you got your first initial and how you got your name!

aka "speckle perch" or in Louisiana, "sacaulait" (french for sack-of-milk).

very good eating, never understood why they called them crappie, but up north , croppie.

nice job cmoney

Actually Phat all my friends from the south call them crappie also. In Louisiana one of my best friends and his and my son pulled in about a hundred out of his private lake to have a huge fish fry.
Called them crappie.
Lake Solitude LA.

Thanks guys that was on lake Cherokee in Oconee sc its a small lake near keowee that has Great fishing. All you need is a couple of ultralight rods and some crappie magnets or minnows under cork and its on. Also when the fish start to slack off i take a paddle and tap it on the deck of the boat, thud thud thud and it makes the fish go crazy.
