Got the boy out of his mom's hair for a while this afternoon. Wouldn't you know it, the little stinker outfished me one to nothing !?!!?! He caught him on a "marios squid rig " that I got from Cabelas, the color was chartreuse.

we fished for a little over 2 hours, Thomas got this one ( 4 lbs on the boga grip ) within five minutes. Then nada,, maybe a bluefish bait steal only. Fluking is S L O W in CT but they are such good eating.

I dont know if you saw my posts on the other thread, but, all last week and I think this passed Mon.& Tues. 2 party boats, both from Norwalk were 100 ft. off my front door.Maybe they had better luck this side of the pond.Congradulations Thomas, nice fish!!

Great fish!! Let me say, they are not alone!! were there is one there is more.

Every area is different, try different bait longer bait shorter bait.
Try different colors, jig slow jig fast. I have a 7 foot Ugly Stick. I rig spinning gear with 5/0 circle hook, and I dead stick it.
That rod catches better then some of us some days!!

Don't give up!! the best bait here is squid to start, But freash fluke belly from a short fish (you didn't hear me say that) make strips about 1/2 to 3/4 wide and about 4" long to start.

Good luck

I'm in it to learn Joe and I am paying attention. I drifted over the same spot 4 more times after finding that fish. I had out two colors with fresh squid. I just couldnt bring myself to butcher my dinner when I knew my time was limited. My brother and I have a Fluke day planned for early July,, just have to hit tide and wind.

Phester I am not opposed to some GPS coordinates for your front yard !! I fished Lloyd Neck one afternoon but had no idea where to go ;D I shoot across the sound in about 15 minutes at 44 MPH with the new engine !!!

,Strip, I think you've got two different areas mixed in one name.I'm guessing you mean EATONS NECK and LLOYDS HARBOR. Eatons Neck is just west of the U.S.coast guard station, Llyod harbor is basically south [or so. west] of C.G.station.Lloyd harbor is not historically known as a "fishing hot spot",like any other harbor it will yield a large bass or blue at any time.A good spot for fluke is "Sand City",us locals gave it that name many years ago.I dont have gps coordin. for you, but I can tell you this any 'ol L.I. sound map will show the coast guard station, and that is basically the enterance into Northport/Huntington harbor. You're basically in a southerly direction, C.G. on your left [or east]straight in 3/4 mile or so, you'll eventually see an old lighthouse,THAT is the enterance to Huntington harbor.Come back off the lighthouse 3-400 ft. and go 90* port rudder [or left] THATS NPT. harbor. If you head towards npt. harbor off your left shoulder you will see channel markers and the point of sand city. No rocks no sandbars so you can get tight to the beach if need be.I preffer an outgoing tide there but either one will produce. Another good area [if youre coming over this way].. is the Eatons Neck triangle.A bout 3/4 of a mile due northof theC.G. sta.is a red or green [I forget which] marker bouy#13,about a mile due north of 13 is bouy#"11B" and off to the west about mid distance of 13 and 11B is #28 or 28C All 3 of these cans form a triangle, the Eatons neck triangle, a very hot bass/bluefish spot.lots of stucture depths of 60-70 ft. then comming up into the 20s strong currents 6,7,8 ounces of wieght is not unusual,I like chunking that area or diamond jigs right off the bottom, great area for bass/blues.All those Norwalk fluke boats I was seeing this passed week were just EAST of the coast guard sta. Be advised...directly in front andeast of the c.g. sta. there are some rocks stay a good 100 ft. off the front and once you get 150-200 yards to the east youre safe...would'nt want you to foul that new motor or the boat . Depths of 13-18 ft. are the norm. If you can drift away [or north] of the beach there is a fairly dramatic drop-off down to 40 ft. and its like that for miles. From cold spring harbor to port jefferson the first 1/4 off the beach is not much more than 17-20 ft. deep, then after that 1/4 mile there's a 20-30 ft. cliff,... it just drops real fast....good for bass and fluke.Hope this helps you out.If you get out to ant of those spots let me know how you made out ,good luck

correction...there is a lloyds neck and it's just west of eatons neck and lloyd harbor by an area known as caummsett state park.I have had good fall bass fishing off the beach at caummsett, and that is about as far west as I get.

phester,

Thanks for the intel. I did make it over to Lloyds about 2 weeks ago. Now that the fish are starting to run a bit more I may have to get back there. It's a shame about these gas prices, makes traveling by boat VERY undesirable. I appreciate the specific areas. I actually hope the fishing picks up near me, like I said fuel.

You're not kidding, when I gas up I never fill it to the brim...3/4 of a tank, for my specific travels, is plenty. 97.00$

115 hp has one advantage at least....

I can fish 4 days on 20 gallons! 8) 8) 8) No BS.

I have concluded that my boat is almost as cheap as not owning one. ;D

I have a 150 johnson, so it not a gas hog...p.s. I got 5, 4-5lb fluke today and got boarded by the United States Coast Guard. They asked me [us] if we had any weapons on board, and proceded with a thoughrough saftey inspection....gotta get that horn fixed...oh well,at least no ticket was issued

You guys have any bull minnows up there? Y'all ever cast net your own bait? And thats a flounder. They like carolina rigged bull minnows down here. Just kiddin Nice fish.
