Fuel delivery issue

I was driving in on Saturday after a good day of black seabass fishing with my Dad. The ride in was about 30 minutes at 3500 rpm with no problems. After I was in sheltered water, I went WOT and after about a minute the engine shut down. No alarms - no bad noise - just rpms went to 0 and it would not restart. After a few minutes of investigation, I checked the fuel bulb and it was soft. I pumped it up hard and the engine started and we got home with no further issues.

Wondering what the problem might be. Could it be as simple as bad bulb. Or maybe something worse. The bulb and attached fuel line are 3-4 years old.

Your thoughts and comments are appreciated

It's a 150 mariner 1988 vintage

Thanks

sounds like your feul supply might be choked off. I've seen a lot of the grey mercury fuel hose go bad with this new ethanol fuel. The inner liner starts to actually break away from the hose and clog up the lines. The best way to troubleshoot any problem is isolate where the problem is. use a known good portable tank and known good fuel line and try to duplicate the problem. If it still happens its on the motor. If the problem goes away its the boat.

Carl,

I had almost the same thing happened to me this weekend. Anything over 3 thousand rpm would cause the primer ball to collapse and motor to shut off. I have all new fuel lines and had just changed my fuel filter. Took the boat out the next day, ran the boat for a couple of hours, and could not replicate the problem.

Go figure?

One thing I noticed, the problem started after i fueled up.

I was thinking maybe the vent for the fuel tank maybe restricted or clogged.
