fuel tank installation?

i just replaced my tank this winter on my 1984 v20. i used wedges of poly board caulked in place to hold the tank .. the old tank was foamed in and rotted on all sides . hopefully no water in my fuel this season.

re: wood butcher

The foam around my tank was saturated with water and VERY heavy because a pvc pipe under the tank to transfer water through the tank cavity was cracked and possibly blocked causing foam to eventually become saturated and cause pitting of aluminum tank.I dont think wet foam can harm a poly tank but I would recomend making sure water is able to freely pass through under tank to the bilge. I personally am not going to foam my new tank in especially under the tank.
Closed cell foam can repel water for days even months but will break down over time and obsorb water.

Is that for metal tanks or all tanks I was planning on foaming in the poly tank I bought?

be careful with a poly tank they tend to leak in the corners from the thin moldings, better off to us aluminum and no foam for either, the foam can eat into a poly tank due to the chemicals in the foam.
