Gelcoat Product comments, please

Has anyone tried a product called Presto Gelcoat rejuvinator? It's not for my V; it's for my sailboat. But the people on here have such a wide range of experience, I wanted to ask. The V looks great (and is running great, too, thanks to having cleaned out the saddle tanks). The sailboat, a '65 Cape Dory Typhoon has a lot of crazing. The Presto product makes solid claims and seems to have some backup testimonials. Anyone ever tried it?

Don't waste your time. You don't rejuvenate Gel-coat, you remove the exposed oxidized layer and reveal new material plain and simple. Any product the just covers the oxidation without exposing new gel-coat isn't worth buying. Besides, the crazing isn't going to be fixed by this approach or what I recommend.


It's simple:

1. Buy some Aquabuff 1000 and 2000 grit (16 Oz size containers) from this link fbelow or Appx $19.00 (always use 1000 first then follow up with 2000 - you'll be amazed how well this product works.)

2. Go online or too you’re local Harborfreight store and buy the following:

http://www.harborfreight.com/9-inch-foam-buffing-pad-91235.html for Appx 7.00 ( get two one for the 1000 and 1 for the 200 grit)
and
http://www.harborfreight.com/7-inch-variable-speed-polisher-sander-92623.html for 35.00 (I have seen them sell it on sale for 29.00 though)


3.) Once done make sure you use a good wax to protect your efforts. I have used lots of different sealer and waxes in the past and have recently found this product that I really like.

For a total for about 75.00 you have enough material can make both boats look like new with just a few minutes work and little to no elbow grease.

Thanks for that informed and superbly detailed response. I guessed that my gel coat situation would take that approach. I already own the buffer, so a little materiel and I'll be ready to go. One of these days...

Aquabuff 1000 and 2000 grit is an awesome product, I used it during my restoration and still have left overs which a buddy of mine use to clean his BMW lens he was amazed and so will you.

Ahh, the beauty of the search engine... Glad I caught this. I have an orbital. Guess I'll be taking a trip to Harbor Freight this week for a rotary.

Planning to follow the steps Kamikaze listed. I heard good things about Fleetwax, so that's what I'll be using for the final step. Can't wait to see that hull shine.

Have any of you guys used this stuff on the inside of the hull as well (sides and top of gunwales)?
