Got ripped off on EBAY

After years of use with absolutely no problems buying on ebay it appears I finally got screwed.....bought a new vhf for the boat back on 9/25 . the seller had like 26 feedbacks all good...To be honest I really dont even scrutinize that stuff as I've been lulled into complacency by trouble free purchases but I do remember seeing 26 and 100% next to his name.

So I pay with paypal (luckily) and I get no emails about "thanks for your order" or "you've won this bid" or shipping info which seems kind of weird...so yesterday on 10/3 I go back on ebay pull up the listings and the guy has like 40 feed backs in the last 3 days all of people that got ripped off. Today the listing wont even come up on EBAY as it has been removed.

I guess the guy could have died or something which must happen every once in a while or he could have just run with 4 or 5K it seems like he got . Fortunately it appears that paypal will cover my $94.50 not sure how long it will take....

sorry to hear that wilson, seems everyone has got stung on ebay at one time or another , my son was a victim back about 5-6 yrs ago when he was 16-17 for a car radio he paid 250.00 bucks for , I felt so bad for him when it happened.... I wanted to strangle the guy but hes in cyber space.... But it was a valuable lesson I know he'll never forget. it sucks real bad............but they'll get what coming to them ...what comes around goes around:devil:

At least you have Paypal to fix it for you. They got me a few years ago for like $40 but it still pisses me off.

If I ever go to Ohio, I'm gonna look up that SOB.

lol that reminds me of a friend at Atlantic Beach, he got screwed on a $1200 1171 Blower for his boat. so he had the guys address in Washington State, so hoped a plane flew out there and unknown from there except he came back with the blower and half his money lol.

we used to use the whoopass range buying method, never buy something from some one that lives farther away than you are willing to drive to whoopass if it isn't right.

I lost money on EB too;
First a $50 money order. The seller sent it to the "wrong" address, I tracked the item ti`ll it was returned to him ( I paid the shipping ), and the seller never answered me again. Later he was catched doing the wrong address trick and got fired out of e-b. I`m sure he`s back with a new "name", but I lost my 50 greens.
Second, another M.O. for $20, for a toy, never got an answer or the item.
Third and last, NO MORE EB FOR ME EVER AGAIN !!!

Sucks you had to go through that, glad to hear your getting the $ back. Got to forward this to my wife. She has recently been bitten by the ebay bug lately, always scares me (ebay not the wife, well maybe the wife too.)

Sorry RW....I got it times 2....

1 - selling my old boat. I put it up with "buy it now" and Mr. ripoff hits the button. The guy had a negative 4 rating....cost me $45 or so in fees....can't remember but it seems like eBay reimbursed me? I won't do buy it now any more and specify in writing that bidders with negatives will have their bids cancelled. I have cancelled suspicious bids since then.

2 - I bought a squid daisy chain from a reputable seller and waited. And waited. Emailed. Waited. Emailed. Waited. Started to notice negatives showing up on his profile where people payed and did not receive - just like me. Called him and he says he's sorry and he's gonna send 2 of the chains for my trouble.....never did. Cost me around $30.

Speaking of paypal, I ALMOST got ripped there for $1100. I was looking in my personal email and saw a paypal email saying, "Your payment has been sent." So I'm thinking what payment? Log in to paypal and see two instances of $550. Then I remembered the last time I tried to log into eBay, I could not pass authentication due to bad password?? I never change my eBay password. Come to find out somebody hacked my eBay account, changed my password and set up shop selling bogus goods. I have no idea how but they were able to get into my account via paypal and ALMOST swiped $1100. Luckily I saw the email and took swift action with my bank which allowed me to put a block on any amount of $550. Cost me $30 to put the block on but it worked. The bank said the transaction tried to go through but the block put the brakes on it. Crazy stuff. Since then I have started using stronger passwords with eBay and paypal.

People that will rip off another person tick me off. Not Ebay but years back a guy got me for $500.00 for some advertising that was never done. I tried to track the company down along with a few other people without any luck. I keep that cashed check in my desk as a reminder.

so the procedure is you file a claim with paypal and they contact the seller and give them 10 days to respond which was yesterday the 14th

got this email today.

All sounds great until I read the last paragraph....assuming the guy was ripping off 40 people in one shot I doubt he left the money in his paypal account.....we'll see.

We have concluded our investigation into your case and have decided in your

just checked my paypal account...balance of $94.50. cant complain I guess, quite painless really....of course 3 weeks has gone by and I still need to find a new VHF....should have known $95 bucks was too good of a price for that radio. guess I'll need to pony up a little more cash.
