Hatch repair

I posted awhile back about this but had no pictures. I want to fix the sliding hatch but an not sure what the core material is. Prior owners kid walked on it and busted the two corners. The core seems to be a foam material. What do you think is the best way to repair?

Just cast some new corners in solid glass and then glass them on. The core only saves weight and a few dollars in resin, but the additional cost/weight of solid glass corners is insignificant.

That must have been some big kids. I've walked on mine many times. 195lbs and no broken hatch

Kid was around 14 and running around this boat while me and my Pop took it for a sea trial.

I think I fiberglass it just cause I like to keep it almost origninal.

Stink, I dont want to hear there was one floating around. Thats always the way it is. I hold onto something for years and decide its taking up too much space, throw it out and than a month later I need it. :-/

I hear ya.

Im with MJ...(imagine that, since we are the resident starboard whores. ::) )

Get a piece of 3/4" starboard and route the grooves and such into it. That sum beech would be there forever! ;D

Though I love starboard for a lot of things I have seen on this board, I don't believe it is the right application for this hatch. In order to have the rigidity it needs it will have to be too thick and bulky looking, plus it will also be heavy. For a lot of things fiberglass is tough to beat. JMO

I cringe when I see someone about to step on my hatch. Then I bark at them until they get that stupid thought out of their head. :-*

My kids KNOW it...anybody new on the boat, LEARNS it ;) ...

I really don't know how I still have mine?? For years it was held down with nothing! The only thing was when the windshield was closed held it.
I use to be able to take it off and throw under. But now when I did all over I added new angle to it and it doesn't come off anymore. So I better watch it now!!

I made new angles for mine outta "J" channel that is used to end-cap vinyl-siding...thin, but TOUGH material, slides good, too ;) ...
