Hello there ! Hope everything is going like you wish. For my self, it's very cool to know i'm not late in my preparation for this time of the season.

Of course, i have some of this and some of that to do before the month of may but it's going very well. Great !

I would like to know what kind of motor do you suggest for the trolling moment ? ( Whit a 20 ft V20 )
I mean , i will change my 2 stroke 15 HP mercury for a 4 stroke and i think i willl buy a Yamaha.
but i dont know the good HPO to buy.

The range of trolling speed is 1 to 3 mph.

Have a good day

A 6 or 8 HP 4 stroke should be able to troll a V-20 at those speeds. I would find the lightest one in a 6-10 HP range and go with that. I know the YAMAHA's are reccomended in the small kickers as they seem to run the smoothest in a 4 stroke kicker.

would 2.5 HP be enough?

I have a bracket already, just shopping for a kicker to mount. Found a 2.5 Johnson 2stroke local to me. Would that be too small for trolling?

I think it would be too small, but that is just my opinion. It might work ok if it was dead flat calm with no current whatsoever but that is probably not the case.

My new kicker... 1984 Honda. Seems about the right size and with the OHC they are super smooth running 4 strokes. 9.9 hp. Trolls at 1-5 mph GPS

That is a nice looking Honda Destroyer. I had an 80's model 5hp Honda on my first boat as a kicker. It never ran quite right though. It might have been due to the fact that I bought it for $100 and the oil cap was missing. I think the PO lost the cap under operation and kinda fried it a bit but just speculating. It still ran...just not extremely good. I was too young to know how to check compression back then.

Sold it for $100 about 4 years ago.
