earlier in the week i put a new water pump on my motor...trying to correct a overheat alarm at 40mph..today i'm finally able to go drop it in the water to run it and see if i get the alarm again....put in at willoughby spit ramp, its low tide... ..take off from the dock and was gonna do circles in the area close to the dock ..next thing ya know i realize i'm in 2 ft of water!!! WTF!! geez!!!..i have launched from this same ramp MANY many times and never hit a low spot like this.......well trying to motor through it my steering cable snaps!..yup..you got it...in less than 2ft of water..motor churning up sand/mud and i have no steering!!!!#$%$%^#@!!!!..its was deja vu from when i blew my motor on the james river mud flats.. but this time its in the chespeake bay!!

oh well.. new steering cable time...luckly i didnt blow my motor AGAIN...i swear i'm gonna sell this da*n boat as soon as i can! definetly bad juju!

Kajun,

Man that is some tough luck. How did you get back to the ramp and loaded with no steering?

This area is scary with at low tide. I was out in Broad bay and wandered out of the channel heading into a cove to a friends house and I was all of sudden in 2 ft of water. Scared the crap out of me. Cut it back to nothing and tilted up. Everything was OK as far as I know, and I made it back to the channel OK but I can relate.

Good Luck.

Tough luck for sure. The bad times make the good times better. You'll getter right soon. Just think of being trouble free next year ;)

Airslot

I had to replace mine as well this past season along with a new helm and lets not forget the electrical melt down I had as well. You will be ready to go in the spring.
Hang in there.

thats the thing....my favorite fishing seasons is september to march, this is my last striper/cat season in VA......i'm missing striper season...cattin season is just cranking up...i'll get it going hopefully...if it aint one thing.. its another though.

i'm transfering to panama city beach,Fl ;D but it sucks i'm missing whats my last chance at catching stripers, i'm staying in the south when i get there!

oh yea almost forgot this part...as i'm putting my boat on the trailer...this group of black guys back their cuddycabin I/0 down the ramp.....before it gets in the water it slides off and BAM boat's azz end is on the concrete! on rollers and didnt have the safety chain on...after a while of trying to get it back on trailer...they decide to psh it backwards into the water so they can get the trailer back under it....finally get it out and big gashes at bottom of stern under the plug.....mercrusier outdrive lower unit is leaking oil like crazy and a big crack in the lower unit housing...ouch! i guess my day wasnt too bad lol

Kajun: when we went to look at our boat before buying, the guy took us to Willoughby Spit for our sea trail. The same ramp you went to. Coming back in I let my 10 year old daughter drive, real slow towards the ramp. I asked the guy if there were shallow spots, NO YOUR OK. About 100 yards from the ramp, 2 feet of water and we were tilting and waiting for waves to raise us.

Although the sterring cables didn't break I know what you were feeling.

We bought the boat and I have had it a ground several time since. I guess it was a sign of what I should expect. ;D

Hey Kajun, lotsa folks from my old stomping ground on the site now. I grew up in Va Beach and I too miss the stripper seson. But when you join me down here in Florida it'll give us a chance to add some new members down here. I've got a couple of guys to join down here. Maybe we can hook up at eihe place, your ofrt mine and do some serious feeshin!

turbine.. i bet we hit the same spot lol

franco..yea i know i'm gonna miss this stripers...the sight of the water surface BOILING and catching a fish on every cast is gonna be hard to beat....where you at in Fl.?

Steering cable not that hard to change?? Should be able to do that in short order and be fishing same day.

yea MJ..shouldnt be hard to change..just sucks..another $100+ though..

ah ok franco...thats right i remember ya inlet post now.....i dont have a V20 yet...i'm working on that though ;D i dont think they have snook in the panhandle but lots of red's and specks....only thing is the limits in florida is so ridiculous its almost not worth it to fish for them...1 red...5 specks?

i just pulled the steering cable out.. how do you measure these to order another one?....its 12ft from cable end to cable end...13ft with steering bar included......

Unfortunately, that's what you have to do when species are overfished like our trout and reds. When you register your boat in Florida, it'll be one of the 947,000+ registerd boats in the state. We have now surpassed Mich. and Ca. This doesn't count the tourists that trailer their boats into Florida. You can also catch grouper, Snapper and Cobia to name a few. You can fish at Sebastian inlet and catch flounder up to 17 lbs. These are all great eatin inshore fish. Where we fish, any of these species are available year round. You can also snorkle for scallops, run a couple of crab traps and dive or snorkle for lobster. You're making a great move. Hurry up, we're waiting for you.

Hey Kajun ............ ya won't be missin the jailfish when there's a King Mackerel stripping 80 yds of line off your reel ........... the panhandle has some GREAT fishin ....... and don't forget those St John's river bass ..........

Sorry to hear about your boat problems ......... but isn't that the definition of a boat :-/ ;D

i couldnt find one MJ... i called a local shop they said its a 13ft.. they have them on hand for $139..it comes with a new rotary box and cable....they dont sell them separate.
