lets start with the good things about i/os

i/os get good gas milage, their easier to repair, they can be made very large, you can have more power in a v-20 if you have an i/o, easier to repair because you can use auto parts, dont need to flush them when your don runnin them, they dont stress your transom to hang them you dont need an expensive braket to hang them, and they draw less water than the outboards. But take up deck space and if you have a fire theres a fire on the boat you have to check and change oil. they are much heavier than an outboard.

now outboards

they have better tork than an i/o, if you have a fire they are not toatily on the boat, can be toatily raised out of the water, dont take up space on the boat, are lighter than an i/o, and they are eaiser to replace than an i/o. But they are horrable gas hogs even for strokes they are louder they pollute the earth more thatn i/os and there exposed to everything you can bang them on docks and hurt them.

only thing that scares me about them is that seal that sometimes fails and lets water in lol...of course my overweight OB that sinks my scuppers aint no safer lol

Auto parts are different from marine engine parts. Take for example the carb. Auto carbs when the float sticks and lets the fuel keep coming, dump the extra gas out side the carb while marine carbs dump it into the carb to flood out the engine and preventing a fire.

I was told this by a friend who paid TWICE as much to get the marine carb instead of an auto carb for his boat.

i used to have an old 350 from a suburban in my v-20 an auto engine so i could use auto engine parts.

she sure was fast though i could pass anything on the water. and my exaust was mouned on the transom above the water so she sounded like a muscle boat so i didnt need to worry about that.

but i do admit it was a huge gas hog and i put the 470 in it and that through a rod and now i got this dinkey little 4 banger. :'( but next season when i buy a merc 350 with 280 hp WHOA look out fishbonejr on top agian with the fastest v20 on this site,

when i drive a 06 corvette to work every day and have a twin 250 outobard boat that can go 60 mph on the water according to gps you think i cant handle a wussy little 23 mph ;D ;D ;D ::) :P :P

i would just have the vette but i need the truck for towin fishbonejr to and from the water.

how long does it take you to get on plane with that little of outboard.

depends on how hard I push it. Normally I'm not in any hurry so I ease it up. But when needed I can plane in about 10 to 20 seconds. Never timed it. Maybe next time out.

ok i always run hard because thats how i drive. that must be why i go through so many engines in three years. in boats and cars.

I cant afford engines nso I have to take care of what I got.

Just started eating a midnight snack. Please forgive the greasey fingers. ;D

i cant eather but i do i just had to put a new engine in my mercedes benz that through a rod 3 days after the boat did so i am preety tight now becuase mb parts are like 4 time as expensive as american its an 1984 380sl so there ovesoly no warenty.
