Lifting eyes

Anybody ever actually used the bow and stern lifting eyes to lift your V? I have the paint to apply to my bottom and need to lift it off of the trailer to sand off the many layers of old paint before repainting. I can jack and block it up, just wondering if anybody used the eyes to lift it and how it worked. Got two 6inch wide x26 ft straps I've never used and can get to a travel lift if needed. What have you used?

I've always thought of those eyes as "towing" eyes, never for lifting. Go to a marina and they will put straps under the boar to lift. I've never seen a boat lifted with the eyes.

If it was me:.........

and I had a roller trailer I'd pull the boat off the trailer about a foot. Paint the bottom and then wait at least 24 hours for the paint to dry and harden, then winch the boat back on the trailer and paint the bare spots.

and I had a bunk trailer I'd jack up the rear of the boat, paint everything and then wait for the paint to dry and harden, then lower the rear back down and jack up the front to paint any portion missed the day before. :head:

I have seen lifting eyes used at a new boat dealer...emphasis on the NEW part.

When I first got my V20, the bow eye broke just tightening the winch after driving it on the trailer.

On an older boat I wouldn't trust that the lifting eyes and the area they are mounted to are still like they were when new.
