I just ordered myself a fathers day present the lowrance elite 9 chirp sounder it helps it's was on sale at 40% off. It looks like a good unit with a big display I've had good luck and like there product just curios if any one has used one yet and if so what did you think of the unit. It feels like I'm going from a black and white to colour with the size of the screen going to make navigating much easier.

I have the Elite5. I really love the map and GPS. Not thrilled with the sonar. It only has 400/800kHz. I gets sharp images of wrecks when you are on them but they are harder to find. When we hunt around for bait schools it is useless. You have to be right on top of them. I use my old 86c with a 50/200kHz for sonar and leave the Elite on Map.

I think the Elite 9 lets you use 2 transducers for more choice????

i also have the elite 5 and agree with everything skunk said. pretty good unit for the price but boy do i miss my old 337c. that was an awesome unit with tons of features that i actually used. i dont think my elite 5 is chirp though, not sure. if not then your sonar may be better than ours.

im dreaming of a hds9 with 3d and side scan! hey, i guy can dream cant he.

in my years of boating and fishing one thing that ive become convinced of is that lowrance is quality. from there budget units all the way up to their flagship models, user friendly reliability

i have a newer elite TI and it had 400/800 as well as 83/200 and down scan

built in maps are good enough and im plenty happy with the sonar

Got my new sonar yesterday it's pretty cool and lots of new features for me to master. I can now run a split or triple page on the screen now I can run 50/200 kHz 83/200 kHz and down scan all at ounce. i like the fact I can down load the saved data and update the chip and it will add to or make its own chart of your favourite fishing hole lake or river. The screen is massive on this thing I run a elite 5 before it's about a third the size.

Here's a pic trolling for salmon in a big hearing ball. It was a diffrance maker a few days for us.Having a clear image of the salmon stacked up behind a hump ambushing bait fish as they come across with the tide. I'd watch the sonar and tell them to drop the cannon balls into there zone as we came over. After that we started picking up our fish on almost every pass. The mapping was also a huge upgrade better detail and The 9" screen made things a lot easier to use especially in split screen. I didn't use the down scan much so no report on that.
