I am in the process of selling my V20 as I need the cash so my wife can stay home with my baby boy as opposed to putting him in daycare. I've had the misfortune of running into a SH$$head (Jim Kirby of Kirbysfarm) who guarnteed to buy my boat but did not want to travel to my home to pick it up. Being the good natured, honest person I am I agreed to tow it 2 hours south and meet him as he was traveling 6 hours to that point. He guarnteed purchase so I was not wasting my time and gas etc.. I took the day from work and met him. Needless to say he hosed me and did not buy the boat because he was unaware the 1989 V20s didnt have the freeboard the olders ones had. Whos fault is that. He explained "others the boat was as described". What a moron.

I sit a work now making up hours so I don't lose a vacation day I'd rather spend with my family. This man has no self pride and respect for others and their situations.

That stinks!

Hammer freeboard is the distance from the deck to the gunnel cap. From what I've read the pre self bailing V's had more freeboard since the deck was slightly lower and Wellcraft had to raise it slightly to accomodate the drains and such.

Still it's not like it's a drastic difference, what's it 1"-1 1/2"? Unless the guy is going to Alaska to go crabbing who cares? ;D ;D

Still stinks for you Regi.... :-/

Re: Members BEWARE  Jim Kirby of Virginia

Thanks guys, Gator he's from your neck of the woods. Fishes the Chesapeake by norfolk. I'm annoyed more at the fact i feel he had no intention of purchasing the boat and made me go out of my way to view the boat casue he knew I was accomodating. Live and learn but don't want to seem this guy mess with others. He is in the market for only a V20. Doesn't really make sense to walk away from a deal you drove 6 hours for over the hull being self bailing. That was one of the nice things about this year.

It will be interesting to see if he ever joins this forum once he does find a V20.

Regi, sorry to hear about this.

I greatly commend you in making such a huge sacrifice for the sake of your home. More men would do well to follow your example in making such sacrifices for the sake of the home.

Give us some more info on your boat and post it in the for sale section here. I'll be praying that the Lord would bless your endeavors.

Reg, being good natured and trusting are certainly attributes any gentleman would aspire to ... I commend you ... and at the same time agree with Kajun ... an upfront deposit would have weighted your side of the transaction and demonstrated intent on his ... you learned a difficult lesson in dealing with people; known and unknown ... thanks for the heads up on this guy ... now go ahead, file it to experience and don't dwell on it and grow bitter ... learn from it and go on ...

Re: Members BEWARE  Jim Kirby of Virginia

That really sucks!! I agree with everyone, especially getting the deposit!!

I have the old V and seen the new V and there not more then 2" separating the two!!

I guess he likes the idea of having water in the bilge all the time rotting the stringers, also the fact there is no foliation in the old boats either!!

O well you can't keep pissing about it, Just move on, maybe you will make more on the next guy that wants to buy!
