well i finally found me another classic fiberglass boat , i had to get rid of the one i found up in norfolk before i moved to Fl.....so i've been searching high and low for one with big fins on the back....i found this one today and bought it!! i put a hefty deposit on it already so there is no backing out now lol
its a very rare "1958 Herters Mark III Flying Fish" on a gator trailer...its one of the most highly collectible and sought after fin boats...it was on ebay and i called the guy ..turns on he was a military officer(AF pilot) and he agreed to end the auction to sell it too me since i was military....i know, i know...its a low down dirty tactic..but if you want something bad enough you'll do what you got to do to get it !! ;D
only thing missing is the windshield, but there is a company that makes replica's...all hardware is on it and complete.....gonna paint it back to its original color ...it'll prob take awhile but i want to do it right! one of the cool things about a herters is there is NO WOOD to rot! it has a molded aluminum frame inside..... i will be putting my newly acquired 1963 Merc 500 (50hp) or the 61 Merc 500 on the back of it once its restored ,which ever one fits the best.... i'm going pick her up friday in Rock Hill ,SC.
the last 2 pics is a 57 duofoil flying fish..slightly dif model but an idea of what they look like when they are restored.
here she is!
