I wanted to try the prop from my old 140 hp V4 onto my new (used) 150 hp V6. Well...... it fits. I was told I definatley needed a new prop, so I purchased one, here's my thoughts.

Iv'e heard some V4 OB's are commercial and have V6 gearcases. My old model no is: E140TLCOS. Does anyone have any ideas. I want to make sure my new 150 doesn't have a V4 gearcase :o

Thanks,
Scott

I don't know how much help I can be shicks. All I can tell you is that, based on your old model # you had; E=Evinrude, 140=140 hp, T=Tilt and Trim with electric start, L=20" Long Shaft, CO= 1985 year, S=model run or suffix (?)
I don't see anywhere that there were any 140 hp commercial motors made during that time period. There were 150 and 155 hp made though.

some one either put a V6 lower unit on your V4 at some point or your V6 has a V4 lower unit. the only V4's with larger gear case's were 25" shaft motors and they were V6 shafts but different gear ratio.

1985 120-140 OMC's had V6 gearcases but had V4  gear ratio1985 was the only year the V6 gearcase was used on the 120-140

OH NO my twin 140's have V6 lower units with V4 gear they are 1991's. none of the short shaft V4's had V6 lower units. Looked them up all 25 inch have V6 lower units and only 85 had 15 spline V6 output shaft.

My heads getting ready to rupture, can ya'll break it down for me.

I do remember the previous owner of my new motor saying something was replaced on the lower end long before he bought the boat used (with this motor on it).
