need help with yamaha 4 hp

I am trying to put back together my lower unit when I took it apart this pin fell out and I am not sure which way it goes back in. It is item # 36 in this diagram (shift plunger ) it is a pin that is rounded on one end and square on the other. It engages the shift rod. The diagram is to blury to see. Can anyone help me? Thanks
