Looks like I am pulling the trigger on a new outboard. I found a leftover 03 Yamaha 150, carbed for $7500 plus installation. It was inevitable and I am basically happy this happened.

I just hate to drop 8500 when I paid 8000 for the boat motor and trailer,,,,,, well ok, ,, ten years ago. Someone make me feel better and tell me that its ok to buy an "old" carbed engine and that she will last for ten years or better.

Man go for it...dont compare the cost on the motor versus the whole thang years ago. You know if the boat is solid then all a new motor does is garantee its existance for a long time. You will have a new "new" boat again. Go for it bro!!! ;D
 
A new boat to replace your boat would be $25,000 or more ----thats before you rig it with electronics and fishing stuff $25,000

equals a saving of $17,000 Man take your wife out for dinner with all the money you saved ;) ;)
 
Look how long 2 strokes have been on the water!! Look how old your is and you got it 2nd hand!!

I am sorry I am not sold on 4 stroke yet!!! and with all the improvments made the new 2 strokes are almost as good as 4 stroke on gas!!

Besides what good is the boat if you have no motor??

If I am ever able to get a brand new motor it will be a Johnson 2 stroke!!

Only reason I will not go with Yamaha is that they make you have it installed for the warrantee.
I want to do the rigging myself!

Go for it!! you won't be sorry!!

Now how about the old Yamaha??
 
I was in the same spot your in ten years ago. I put a $6500 motor on a boat I had paid $6500. The old motor started acting up and I didn't trust it. After the new motor was installed, we were out in it all the time. A boat is a lousy investment, but to have one and not use it is even worse.

No reasonable offer will be refused on the 1988 130. I can honestly say if it wasnt for its new mystery illness it would be a great engine for me still. It still starts on the first turn of the key.

Great deal strip. I'll see you out on the Sound this summer and we can cruise around with our "new" leftovers! ;D You done did the right thing. After all, what fun is owning a power boat if you can't start it cold and piss off a neighboring blow boater in your marina that is downwind from you with a cloud of smoke. ::)? Let's see anybody do that with a 4-stroke!
 
The 7500 included the oil tank and a stainless prop. Rigging was substantially more money ( 1200 or so ). In the time since I posted I have gone to a new deal. A 05 carbed Yammi 8100 with prop and oil tank. I am using my old rigging and key box but a new gauge,, total damage including labor and CT tax = 10k OUCHHHHHH but sooo worth it.

The guy still has 2 2003 carbed yammis for 7500 ( his cost ) mac yacht sales in Norwalk CT. The salesman's name is Felix and he seemed like a real nice guy. I went with the newer deal simply because that dealer is walking distance to my house.

Good for you , Strip . No doubt you did the right thing . I was helping a good friend the other day with his brand new 21' SeaCraft . Let me tell you that is one fine rig !Not to take anything away from it . With $45k+ invested "what's he got that I ain't got "? I have about $10K boat , motor , trailer , electronics , covers , ect. in my boat and she is rock solid . And when the time comes to repower I might have $18 or more in it , but I have had the use of it all of these years many more to come . Looking at what a new boat cost vs. repowering it is an easy choice for me . Not to mention that this guy bought the SeaCraft because he liked the layout better over the Regulator . He said "it was more like my V20 " lots of room and a huge casting deck forward and no euro-transom like most other boats . Yep , It will be a repower when the time comes for this poor boy .
 
Strip - that's a great engine!! Those 2.6L yamaha's haven't changed too much since the 80's (just a few more stainless parts) and the design has proven to be rock solid and quite fuel efficent (for a carb 2 stroke). Congrats!!
