Penn Spinfisher V

I have been watching for news on the new Spinfisher reels. They are going into their 5th Generation in 2013. These have always been my favorite spinning reels. Also added a new size, a 10500. I already have an order in for one. The 3500-8500 were released in October here. The 9500-10500 will be released late January. Has anyone bought any of the small ones and what are your thoughts? I plan to spool with 50lb red Power Pro. Thinking about a custom Key Largo rod. What do yall suggest for a rod?

Here I have seen them at the Bass pro, they seem like a nice reel for the money. CB and I were talking about them and we might both buy one soon? I am looking at the 5500, that be a nice one for casting to bass or blues when they are on top of the water, or a fluke set up!
I use 95% conventional gear, I do own a 450 SS Penn, for schoolies, and a 650 SS that have not seen the water in years.
I have the 450 spooled up with 30# Spiderwire that's 8# Dia great for casting, AI have on a 7 foot Ugly Stick, They are a great rod at a great price. I have some custom rods I built, and some I bought. But now I just want stuff simple and I can no longer make the rods.
The Ugly Stick Tiger rods, in yellow are tuff rods! I have 3 of them, and 2 black ones, and I have nothing bad to say about them at all!
I have Shimano Telota 600's on them and, love the set up's.

Star rods are hands down the best rods for not breaking the bank. They entry models (stay away from the aerials) retail generally from $110-130.
Dude I gar-on-tee you will love this rod and be way to anxious to start buying more to replace others. I think I have 12 now:sun:

I kinda strayed from Penn when they were bought out but I still have a ton of there spinners that work great to this day. My next spinner purchase will be Daiwa Saltist spinners, ready to give them a go.....

MJ go on and step up to the 6500, it will be over powered a tad for fish less than 15lbs but you can use it offshore as well and is what we use to jig up dolphin, pitch to jigs to cobia and throw live baits out with....

I have quite a few Key Largo spinning rods already. I do have one Star Rod, its an Aerial. I have my faithful Penn Senator 6/0 on it. I have no complaints with the rod. Trolling for kings, a 100lb amberjack, bottom fishing for snapper and a seaturtle later no complaints. Mj I fished with Ugly Sticks before and did not like them. But these were broomstick rods.

I am looking to bottom fish, throw for tuna etc.

I will probably mount the 10500 on one of my Key Largos to see how it fishes. Then see what Outcast has in stock.

Aerials are alright I mean it is a Star after all but next time you have a chance in the store, compare the Aerial to one of the Deluxe or Handcrafted(ones I use). The blanks are completley different. The Aerials are hollow as the HC and Del are not. Then the only diff between the HC/Del and the top line Plasmas are the guides(SiC on the Plasma).

While they both with land fish, the solid blank has more backbone.....I had a buddy of mine who works on a ton of rods replace one of my guides. He told me he fixed it but to not bring him another one. He says the Star Rods have more epoxy on them than any other rod he's ever worked with and are built like brick poopoo houses

I have 2 Star rods, One heavy one and one small light one I got for my son when he was a young en. he loves that rod to this day!! It has caught him thousands of fish (for real) he uses it all the time, upgraded the reel from a small Penn 960 he had to a Penn 146 he loves the set up better then anything I own custom built or other wise!

I use the Ugly Stick Tiger now, they better then the black Ugly sticks. They work great with braid for me and are awesome dead sticks, the tigers are not as soft a tip as the black rods, and come in lot more action options.
For the money I still say you can't beat them, I have had them bent in half and still holding great!
before them I use to own and still do all custom rods built by me, or others costing big bucks!! But for $65 they work well for what I need. I still use a St. Croix built by me for Fluking and love it!!
