Photos of my 84'

Here are the pics of my 84 V20. these are the ones sent to me by the guy I bought it from. Haven't got any new ones yet.

Added a Icom 422, Guide posts, overhauled the trim pump, made a removable gunwale bait board, and added latches to the rear jump seats.

Want to do lots more but in due time.

Looks good!!!

When using Photo bucket, copy and past the bottom link were it says IMG.

That will put your pic's right here on the post you have made.

Neat boat. If anything were to happen to that motor I would seriously look for something 150 and up and there are a lot of big two strokes out there with guys upgrading to 4 strokes....I saw a 99 yammie 200 a while back for $3,ooo that only had around 400 hours on it...IT looked like new...Frank

Hey Maco, Thanks for the tip on photobucket I will try it in this reply. As to the 90hp, with a 13.75 x 17 prop it will turn 4600 - 4800 and do 20 to 22 mph. Switched to a 14 x 17 prop rpms dropped to 3800-4100 but speed went up to 30 mph, Can anyone tell me why this happed, is it using torque instead of hp. They called this motor the tower of power and I see what they mean. Little hard to start but runnnnnnnns for ever when it does. If it were to start giving to much trouble I have in mind a 140 upto a 200 in mind. If new it will be in the 140 range dollars wise, but if I felt good about a used one it would be in the 200 range.

Heres tring the IMG link from photobucket,

90 hp doing 30 mph on a V20, I would not be complaining!!

150 hp should be about the best all around motor on these boats.

But as you see with you, we have from 90 hp to 225 hp!!

I had a 165 I/O and it did about what you are getting now.

I converted to a O/B via a bracket and added a 175 and enjoyed 40+ on flat days.

But for right now I am docked for awhile as i blew the motor, which is a long long story!!!!!!

I am hoping the tax man will be good to me and that the winter is mild so I might be able to get something in the spring??

With only 90hp on a V20 You probably have too much pitch. A 14 x 15 would be better and alow the motor to rev more in it's power band.

I had a ring failure, and it melted all over the cylinder wall.

Cause?? well it was a 88 motor, and I bought it used, and I put a huge amount of hours in the 4 years I had it.

For what ever reason it was here and now its gone :'(

My old gas-suckin'' Rude lasted about 4 yrs, then I ''blow'd a moder''...

...and Turbdoc...ya need to find out Merc's Max Recomended RPMs for the ''tower of power''...THAT'S what you're shootin' at when proppin' your motor...

Merc recommends 4500 to 5000 R's but what I found when going to the larger prop was redused R's and increased mph. Do you think it will hurt the engine if I were to keep the prop with lower R's and higher mph.

I had to rebuild the trim motor a couple of week ago when my brothers came to visit and I found it would'nt work. My wife knows how I cant stand for something like this to happen "egg on the face", she asked me as we were heading to some last minute intertainment idea, how much a new motor cost. After telling her 7 or 8 Thousand she seemed she would intertain the idea of a new one next year (one small step for man and one giant leap for my kind of woman).

If I can get my ducks in a row by next year, there may be a tank full of low octane gas and oh my I forgot to add the oil, what will happen now!!

I really like older stuff as long as it don't cause to much trouble so I would hate to see the old gal meet her doom this way. Any ideas how to peacefully put her to sleep?

I lusted after a new engine for years, but the old OMC just wouldn't quit. The guys at the shop called it the "miracle motor." Finally when we knew the end was near we shopped around for a new engine.

My motto: If it ain't broke don't fix it.

If you're happy with the performance and it isn't leaving you stranded all the time, enjoy (and start saving $ for the inevitable).

That old Merc tower of power is a very good motor but not worth spending a lot of money on should things start going south. IF you blow it up you can part it out on ebay for a few hundred easy. There are a lot of used late 90's 150 to 200 HP 2 strokers out there with low hours that you can hang on it for $3K or so including controls...Frank

turbine, I had the same motor [a couple years newer] on a 19 1/2 ft. Angler CC. Before I bought the boat I was concerned that it may be a bit underpowered. Lemme tell ya that 90moved that boat along perfectly. With a stock alum. prop, it was good outta the hole and it topped out at nearly 40 mph. I was very impressed after the sea trial. When those motors are running good....they run great

I like this motor and it does run great for a 90. I stopped by the local merc shop in stockton and talked $$ on a 115 and 150 both 2 and 4 cycles. It sounds as if the 2 cycle is faster out of the hole and just as efficent.

But after hearing the price of a new one, I may be holding on to this tower of power for at least one more year.

Bought some stuff called Quick Cleen from Merc, which you put in the tank and it clean out the carbon in the engine. Any body use this stuff and how does it work. Can you tell a difference in performance?
