Primer Day

The drizzle finally let up today. My brother Eric lives next door and came over to help me spray on the primer. I am just painting from the gunnels up at this point and everything in the cockpit. The first two pics were taken before the paint was applied. The last is of the TunaBrothers having fun.

No wonder you haven't posted any SPLASH pix!!...you've been a busy boy ;) ... lookin' reel good, Tuna ... brother next door is convenient...is he expectin' a boat ride or somethin' ... ;D ;D ;D ...

Nice work Tuna. I am curious - what are you using for primer and paint ? And what are your respirator protection ? I ask cause, I need to paint a boat this spring .... and would like to do it myself ... but am concerned about adequate respirtory protection. I have my boat primed with Awlgrip's primer.

Brian, I don't know what brand the respirator is but it was the best model they had for sale at ACE hardware ($40-50). I can hardly smell the vapor at all.

Alot of guys here swear by Awlgrip paint. I live in a fairly rural area with limited options for marine paint. Awlgrip isn't available. I'm using Petit Easypoxy undercoater and paint.

Reel, the brother next door knows he's gonna get a boat ride. He's looking for free baby sitting.

Wait a minute, did I miss a thread, or are members here keeping secrets from me. >:(
Tuna, whats up with the full restore work ??, didnt know you were doing all this ???.
But WOW, she gonna look better then before for sure. Great work Bud.  ;)

Oh yeah, P.S., I HATE PAINTING.... >:( ;D ;D ;D

Lookin good Tuna.

however, what about overspray on that botom? :o

I know it doesnt seem like it would be an issue, but epoxy and urethane based paints are very sticky and I would mask it just to be sure. Get some of that masking film from lowes that has the tape and drop cloth in one. Its pretty cool stuff. Just run it along your rub rail, unfold it down over the side and put a piece every few feet to hold it there. 8)

Nice work! ;)

Nope!  There was a pair of pinstripes just above the rubrail but they were in terrible shape.  I tried a few different things to remove 'em but nothing worked as well as sanding.

Lookin' good Tuna!

Hey, what about overspray floating around in the air? My neighbors are nice, but I think they would say somehing to me if I were to turn my front yard into paint shop ;D But then again, your bro is your neighbor so maybe not a big deal :P But what about your house and your car in the pic?

The reason I'm so curious is because I was thinking of doing something similar last Summer, but I got all paranoid about the overspray issue... :-/

Anyway, keep up the good work buddy and do ltake Stinky's advice. In the end, you'll be happy you did...

My nearest neighbors are actually a herd of black angus cows. They only complain when I don't throw the grass trimmings over the fence. You can see part of their field in the first picture.

tuna , your a man of my own heart......... thats going to make such a differance in the appearance , your gonna want to change every piece of hardware if your not already....... keep the pics coming GREAT WORK.

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Man, you're all set then!!!

Where I live, I can spit in my neighbors yard from my front and back decks... :-/

Unless I create some sort of a tent like structure I can't see being able to spray anything in my yard :'(
