question on gauges ...

i pulled out my center console before the weather got bad to do some work on it over the winter. my boat originally had a sea drive on it, now repowering with a mariner outboard .. which, if any, of the omc gauges will work with the merc set up? i am starting ideas on how to re do the dash with gauges, electronics, etc.

those of you who redid your dash, what gauges and what brand did you go with? i want white gauges for my boat.

thanks for the ideas in advance.

I recently reworked my dash and used Faria gauges and have been very happy with them. I went with chesapeake white with stainless steel bezels on stained and varnished wood dash (looks sharp). I ordered them online from Bass Pro Shops. How old is the Mariner? Most old school gauges are universal such as voltage, water pressure, fuel, water temp, etc. Some tachometers are universal and can be adjusted for your individual engine (easy).

all but the trim should work for you, but i would go with teleflex guages. VDO's if you can find them. i would go with faria as a last resort.

thanks for the replies... the old sea drive was a 1985 .. the mariner motor i picked up is a 1990.

i was not sure if some of the gauges were specific to engine manufacturer.

i see some just go with tach and volt meter ... others go with many more ..

why would the trim gauge not work ?... excuse my ignorance on this.

Outboard tachs work off of stator pulses for the magneto. Both the OMC and MERC/MARINER use a 12 pulse tach set-up. The trim guage is probably on a different resistance scale from your OMC to the MARINER. Also some of the OMC temp guages used a little resistor board on the back to work with generic temp senders, if you have one ditch it. I also don't like FARIA guages, and I'm not that fond of TELEFLEX tachs either. I have TELEFLEX guages in my HYDRA-SPORT, and NONE of them are correct.
