Refinish Teak Results-Pictures

I re-finished some of the teak on my V. I cleaned the teak with 25% Clorox, 75% H2O, used teak brightener next, sanded with my ROS, and finished with Sikkens Cetol Natural Teak (satin finish). 3 coats of Cetol with 00 steel wool between each coat. I have used Cetol before, and if done properly, you don't have to recoat (steelwool and 1 or 2 coats on top of old finish) for about 3-4 years! That is open to the weather 24-7 for 9 months a year. I am now in the process of refurbishing the fiberglass rod boxes and will post pics when complete.

This my bilge door. I replaced the center panel with teak marine plywood because the original plywood was de -laminating.

I routed out the old plywood from the back and the trim to cover is dark cedar.

Great job geekie. I've got to refinish my teak pulpit soon, and I was looking into using the Cetol. By the looks of your stuff, I think I will definitely use it now.

Nice to see the pictures of how good the teak can look. Mine will never look that good. I can't seem to find the time to do it. Nice work :)

Thanks for the compliments! As you guys can see, I still have more teak to refinish. That isn't going to get done until next fall/winter. I can't wait to get some fish slime on the cuddy and bilge doors. I am going to finish the rod boxes this spring before splash time. I still have some trailer work to do but I always have some trailer work to do. However, I don't want the trailer to break on the 110 mile run to Cape May.

Looks good, if I send ya mine will ya do it for me?

Oh wait, HAMMER was supposed to go and get mine and refinish it.

Hey spareparts,

My port rod box had some serious problems. (Major surgery) I am taking pics of the repair as I go along. Essentially I am reinforcing the boxes from the back with 4 oz fiberglass tape and epoxy resin. I am also backing up the 4 mounting points in the boxes (that were stripped) with oak blocks that have 8-32 brass inserts to make remounting the boxes easier. Some of the trim mounting screw plastic backing is stripped and I am epoxying an oak strip to thread into. Some of the above is theoretical and may change as I go along. I want to go fishin' so I might not complete until fall. But on second thought maybe I'll finish it so I can carry 4 more rods!!

Hammer, - I live in Doylestown PA but I have a house in Cape May County NJ. Thats where the V will be located on June 2. (hopefully) Wife and I have interest in Delaware as a retirement location due to the tax situation in NJ. We intend to be there June 2 and use Sunday to look at possible Delaware retirement homes. If we do that it looks like we will be coming to Lewes via ferry, not in the V.
