my 200 johnson runs great at idle and up to 1500 rpm's and over 3000 rpms runs fine. but in that 2000 to 2500 rpms it just sounds different and runs poor. are all 2 st. engines gonna run lean in this range. or should i have the carbs ck. anyone else have this happen... Z

make sure your jets aren't stopped up. that will cause that. here's the pictures
This is one of the carbs off a 225

these are the high / low jets clean them out. i take them out usually and clean in laquer thinner or just blow air in them to keep open. just don't mix them up and make sure all carbs have the same jet numbers. these are as follows upper is intermediate orifice #47 and lower is idle air orifice #34 in this case

Carb004.jpg

Under this is the main fuel jet take to cap out and fuel should run out there is a number 62D or 63D jet in them usually. these are know as the High speed orifice #62D in this case

you can do these with out needing a rebuild kit.just be careful opening the covers without hurting the gaskets. Hope this helps

you the man Skools, i've had the black cover off and seen the 6 carbs, i worked on some rubber gas lines that had leaked. so i'll take off the cover and look for those screws and remove and see if i can clean them out. thanks Z

Not sure but it looks clean to me... i try to blow it out alitttle, maybe the main fuel jet intake. whatcha think Skools... Z

Hey Zebra, You can remove just the individual carb bodies without messing with the throttle bodies or any linkage. I would separate the bowls and check for any crud and just be careful with the gaskets, you can probably get away without the rebuild kits as long as you dont damage a gasket. Get yourself a 2 cans of carb cleaner and some compressed air and clean them up. Its super easy.

you could just look on ebay and buy a set of 225 carbs and make your motor a 225 hp with just a carb change only difference in the 2 motors. ;D
