Seacast for Maco Joe

I chickened out on the seacast for my V20 last year I just did plywood. But I am getting ready to do it on an early 80,s 16' Seasquirt. I'm just digging out the transom now. I have been thinkin of trying the seacast on it or mixup a batch of epoxy or resin mixed with chopped strand and some other fillers for this boat. The boat came with an aluminum transom cover that the previous owner had made as a temp fix. Its 3/16 thick so I'm thinking of trying a batch of something like seacast. I got a sample from them last year and the sample looked like resin with fillers and air bubbles. :o What do yall think? :-/ Hows that chevy treatin ya?

Hey Vic, I wouldn't use the resin or epoxy with filler. The strength in those comes from using cloth with resin or epoxy. You could use it to glue stuff together, fill some voids or do some fillet work. But I'm pretty sure its not stong enough for stringer or transom construction. Skools probably knows better than me, but I wouldn't do it, IMHO.

Thanks Vic, I was hoping to see what the seacast stringers looked like, when you were all done.

The new transom sounds so tthin that you might as well do it with ply and be done with it.

I know someone here used Seacast, but I can't for the life of me remember who it was??

I used the seacast in a 17 Proline did a great job been 2 years still solid as steel done 2 boats since with plywood the seacast cost me 1g plywood 100 if I had the money I would have used the seacast in transoms of those boats also and the stringers down side is seacast's customer no service s*cks

I read in other forums that the seacast is actually heavier than plywood. Have you guys who've used it noticed that? I'm still planning on using Coosa for the core on my transome, but I wont limit myself to it until it's actually time to do it.

I think the weight is not a real issue. as far as the transom and stuff.
I mean we add xtra gas, brackets, towers. It may be heavier but I am sure its not let say 100# to 1 # the weight difference is IMO not worth worrying over.
