Sebastian Fishing Club

Franco

God
I don't usually join to many clubs, but tonight I joined the Sebastian Fishing Club. I am the next to youngest member of the club, and I'm gonna be 50 in june. It's funny to be called "sonny" instead of sir! But the guys are full of information, patient guys with butltoads of information to share. In the sebastian river there is a lot of tarpon right now. Frank, the vice president said they were fun to catch if you knew how, and just left it at that. After the meeting I asked how to do it. " Ya take a finger mullet about this big ( 6 - 8 inches) and ya put on a bare hook, some fluorocarbon tied to a swivel, no weight on it, put the mullet on the deck and smoosh it with your foot and drop it to the bottom, you'll catch a tarpon, I guarentee ya!" You know what, next trip I'm gonns be smooshing some mullet!

Franco, before slobberin the deck up (and your footsies) with blood and scales, I wonder if those guys are giving you one of your many special initiation rituals ??? :D

That would be funny if they WERE pulling your leg, then you come in having caught the big one!

Go get em Sonny Boy!

I'd be leary if he tells you that you have to bite the head off after smooshing it with your foot ;D

Are the tarpon big in the river? If so, hope your tackle is up to it! Use HEAVY leader material. I hooked a couple tarpon outside Ponce Inlet...din't have them on long....and that was with 60lb. leader! Go 100lb. and when they jump, bow to the fish with your rod...and have fun!

Cobia, tarpon, snook.....I'm missing FL now....but Stripers will be here soon:)

Go get 'em, Sonny... ;D...need to join that club just for boost!!...maybe you got a scrap piece of starboard for smooshin' finger mullet...better than gettin' mullet guts, etc all over new boat...don't get the Nortons in the mullet-smoosher :o :o :P...

We Tarpon fished over at Indian Pass w/ big circle(see Stinky?) hooks and dead menhaden (local said better dead than alive), 80-100 lb leader, 3 oz. egg-sinker and 30 lb line...anchored boat and tossed rigs away from boat...slowly sip cold beer (don't overdo this step) til rod is BENT completely double and reelapeelin, then casually(right) begin to play the fish as if to attempt coaxing it back to boat ;D... ;D ;D ;D

Have LOTS of fun and lettuce know how it go ;) 8) 8)...

How can anybody known as the Grand Puhbah be called Sonny Boy, thats hilarious bud. Learn all you can from them codgers. Personally whenever I get the chance to sit and talk to one of them active old timers I enjoy it ;D

hey Willy, next time down plan to be here last wednesday of the month and you can go to the meeting with me.

I''ll wear my Wednesday Go To Meeting V20 Shirt
thats the clean one
You know Bud one day I'm sitting down at the docks at the Atlantic Highlands waiting for my buddy to come back from where he had to park his truck and I see this beautiful old Grady White sitting there on the trailer, they had just pulled out earlier and they park their boat there at the yard. They were pulling some nice linesides out of the cooler so I walked over and said hey. They looked to be about mid 60's to 70 and reminded me of Willie Nelson with shorter hair. I'm talking with them and they are nice fellows telling me where they caught the fish and they are telling me they are both retired etc etc. I'm engrossed in looking at the boat and fish and reels they had and then it hits me, them old codgers were sitting there while we were talking passing a joint back and forth :o I could not believe it.
I said what the h@ll you guys crazy, smoking that sh!t here in a public boat yard, what if a cop sees you, they said that they ain't driving their daughter picks them up when she gets out of work across the street. They said that the cops don't bother with the old guys and they laughed.
The guy I was fishing with was the Chief in my town and he came walking over. He asked me what was up, I told him just a couple of old fishing hippies smoking a joint and telling me where to catch fish, he laughed and said thats me in 10 years when I move to Florida
So watch out for them old guys, could be armed ex cop types getting high on more than life . They crack me up thats for sure 8)

Thats great Franco. I am in a local club too ACFA Alabama Coastal Fishermans Association. I joined last year and it was THE best fishing decision I have ever made. I typically fish offshore more and these guys are more inshore oriented, but I wanted to learn more about that too. We have almost 200 members with of course a smaller group being the close knit regulars.

I have always heard it said "90% of the fish are caught by 10% of the fisherman. That is SO true and for this area 100% of that 10 ARE in this club. These guys know their stuff and I have learned more the last year from em than I did the previous 10 on my on. 8)

You wont regret it im sure. ;)

Stinky I'm impressed ;D
That was a well written and thought out piece on the current topic of conversation, and there were no flagrant references to anatomical locations on your body

Well done my good man

All right who are you and what have you done with our Stink Man, is there a ransom involved ::)

I normally dont think on Thursday, but today I made an exception for Franco. Maybe its just his lucky day, maybe I want to see him naked...we will never know. :-*

Hey Stink, this will have to hold you over till ya see the real thing!!!

Hey Willy, save me a place on the dock next to ya and "
don't bogart that joint my friend, pass it over to me!"

Why Franco, I don't know what you mean 8)
And that don't look like you at all, that pic has got little feet and knobby knees ;D You should have given Stink Man the shot of you in your Miami Vice silk jacket, white linen slacks no socks and Gucci loafers lying across the bow. You know like the one you signed for me ;D

That no socks sounds cool, but it'll STINK up a pair of Guccis inna heartbeat... 8)...yeah, right...like I'd know anything about Guccis...now Rockport...there's a shoe!! ;D ;D ;D...now what was this thread about??... ??? ??? ::)...

I GUESS NO ONE ELSE CAUGHT THE "EASY RIDER" REFERENCE HUH!

HE OZ, MAYBE THE THOUGHT I WAS SONNY CROCKET FROM SEBASTIAN VICE!!!

Hey, Franco, I am only 41 and they won't let me join that local club until AARP contacts me. Maybe another few years. Glad you joined it and I might also.

The dead mullet trick will work, but you may catch a lot of catfish first. Try a 13-15" mullet also, now that will work.

Most tarpon here are in the Sebastian river or at the confluence with the Indian River (10-60 lbs.) but you can also get some monstrous fish (60-100 lbs) right outside the inlet or maybe 1/2 mile North or South of the inlet from 1/4 mile to 1 mile off the beach. You can see them launching airborne at certain times the year.
The smaller ones in the rivers will usually just roll, or push the bait schools. Large Pinfish are another great Tarpon bait. WATCH OUT FOR THROWN HOOKS, Duck!!!!

Hello All, I'm new here. Livin' in Jensen Beach, Fl. Bought an ol' '77 V-20 I/O from a guy in Sebastian to go outside and troll with. So far done some good twix St.Lucie and Ft.Pierce inlets. I'm not real familiar with the boat so haven't ventured too far out to sea.(Don't wanna conk out and end up in NJ )
Hereabouts the Indian River lagoon the snook fishin' has been good.
Question. What's a common size outboard to use as a kicker for this size boat. TIA :-/

Hey, Hammerhead...welcome to the board!!...if it were mine, I'd go w/25hp...since you're runnin' an I/O, a 4-stroke kicker would run off your main tank...

Congrats on the fishin'...you're right in the middle of things down there ;)...if you run across a wild-lookin' dude inna CC McKee w/a 150 Yam, LOOK OUT!! :o :o ;)
