I might be able to get out Sunday morning. Thinking about launching in fairhaven and then going out to Quicks.

Now, to catch a striper what would the best strategy be? Should I go through the islands an fish the deep hole? Or should I stay between the islands and fish the current? Should I be trolling with the tree rig, tube\worm, spoon? or should I drop anchor and throw out eels, cut pogies, clams etc?

or should I consider somewhere else?

And then take the grandkids fishing maybe around black rock for black bass\tatoug instead of going out to cleveland ledge????

I am not familiar with the area you will be fishing because I do mainly all of my striper fishing out at Block Island. However stripers are stripers no matter where they congregate I suppose. We do well this time of year with eels drifting them across rocky bottoms and boulder fields. Eels work best at night and throughout the early morning hours. Usually after the sun is up for a bit we will switch over to trolling with a tube & worm. Or we troll with wire & umbrella rigs with flashers and teasers on the arms and with one trailing soft plastic bait rigged with a 7/0 hook. Also we will drift a bucktail jig and bounce it along a rocky bottom if the tide and drift is working for us.

The best way to get some stripers druing the day is to live line porgies if you can catch some or net some with a cast net. A Sabiki rig works great also for catching porgies for bait. If I had a livewell on my V-20 I would surely be catching some porgies and live line them along a hump or some rocky bottoms. Another great productive way to catch stripers is to "snap wire" with a parachute jig. It's a lot of work to do because you must keep working the rod back and forth as you are trolling, but the rewards are pretty good when you do hook up.

We went out Wed night out to Block. Perfect night with a full moon and the water was calm with very little movements. Perfect night fishing stripers with eels so we thought. Dogfish have invaded the Island and all we could catch were those because they were everywhere. I shined my spotlight in the water and there were hundreds of dogfish all around us. We would move and they were there in numbers as well. So what should have been a great night turned into a big let down for us.

I may not be able to get out early enough to try eels, but will get a couple anyhow.

Hopefully the bay will be calm enough for my grandkids later in the morning, we did find a spiderman pole for the 3 year old.

and I will probably fish around little black rock with them.

very rough and dirty water as well a thick fog in the bay this morning RKC. lets hope for a weather improvement for you and the family tomorrow
 
RKC. This may be a little late. Anywhoo, next time you head out there, when you go across Buzzards Bay just before you go through Quick's Hole there is a very deep pocket right there. When the tide gets moving, the Bass will stack up in that pocket waiting for bait to pass over. You have several options here. Cut bait and let it drift through, eels will work even in the daytime here, or diamond jigs in the 4-5oz range. You can try trolling, but I would go with a tube and worm rather than an umbrella rig. I don't know what you've got for tackle, but if you're going to troll it, you'll probably need a setup with either wire line or lead core line to get it down deep enough.
Then fish the boulder fields in Quick's with cut bait. Be careful in the boulder fields. The current gets going pretty fast and boats go through there at a pretty good clip. If you can snag a few Scup, that's a good place to liveline them. Cut the dorsal fin and a pectoral fin and hook the Scup right in front of the dorsal with a 5/0 treble hook.

You mean just on the right as you enter the inlet between the islands? Yes, I have fished there before. I am not sure where the boulder fields are.

Yesterday I had a late start and had to leave to pick up the family. I got there mostly for "slack tide" and there was not much happening there.

The boulder fields are right in the passageway between the islands. We're going to have to get together with MJ and have a go at it.
