That didnt take long

I'm sure you all remember my recent post where our beagle died and for the first time in 18 years or so we were without any animals....well it was nice while it lasted!.....As much as I tried to hold off my wife at least until the summer she couldnt take it any longer and I had to cave. She and my son picked out this guy today at and adoption event.

He seems at least for now to be the mellowist dog I have ever met.....no matter where he is or what he's doing if you make eye contact with him that tail starts a waggin'.....

The shelter named him Newfie as they think his a cross between a black lab and a Newfoundland. Its as good a guess as any.
Dont think we are going to stick with that name but we are as yet undecided.

Here's some pics we shot today while he rolled around in the snow.

that's a great looking dog you got there. He does look mello. Hopefully he likes going out on your boat. Good luck.

I look forward to seeing him in person some day. He's a great looking dog ... Definitely Lab in him.. Not sure of the Newfoundland, the coloring says St. Bernard or any one of a few other large species.. but he's a real looker!! Well done my friend.!!

What a pretty dog. Any idea how old he is? Nice work on adopting a homeless animal. We got our dog at the shelter there's nothing like giving them a good home.
:nice:

The adoption people estimated between 1 and 2 years old...although I think they say that about all their dogs because people dont want to adopt a "senior". I think they can only estimate it on the state of their teeth anyway but his teeth are still very white so I think they are probably pretty accurate. Apparently he came out of a high kill shelter from Ohio on West Virginia border. His papers into the shelter in OH were dated 2/7. By 2/12 he was in a new home in NJ.... So far he appears to be an amazing dog.....just wants to lay on his back all day and get his belly rubbed....would love to find out what his circumstances were that he found himself in a shelter....He's seems perfect in every way so far. My 7 year old that weighs 15 pounds less than the dog can walk him on a leash everywhere....have left him alone in the house with no accidents, sleeps like a log all night, stands at the door when he wants to go out or in.....lays patiently by the table while we are eating hoping for something to get tossed to him....so far so good!

Sounds wonderful!

Unfortunately tough economic times mean that people sometimes have to give up pets. It could be that he came from such a family. Personally I would sell everything I have before I'd give up my dog or cat.
