Transom Height

Hello All,

Well I'm a noobee here with a question. I had a V.20 CC Fisherman 1984/1985 model for about 10 years. I'm thinking of replacing my 1984 Johnson 175. I measured my transom after following the procedure site and its 20 inches. One thing I noticed is that is has a Fiberglass over the top of the transom. So I'm not sure the transom has been cut or that is just a normal option. I'm the third owner of the boat and it has been kept in a storage unit since I have bought it so I believe it’s in good shape.

The question I have is has the transom been cut or the fiberglass cap normal?

If its has been But should I go ahead and get a 20inch motor or should I get a 25 inch motor and get a jackplate or similar device so I can use a 25 inch motor.

PS: I know everyone around here likes pictures but I don’t have any digital ones. The next time I bring it home I will take some and post them.

Thanks
Neil

Hello NMOSS: welcome to the site.

I also have a 84 CC fisherman and mine has a 20 " transom as well. It appears that Wellcraft made the 20 and 25" transoms.

Keep asking questions about these boats cause you are in the right place to get a lot of good knowledge.

Nope, mine came with the optional aluminum stern bracket.

This isn't a factory option, it was installed by the previous owners father. I am afraid to look under it as it may end up costing me a new transom. It works good and doent have any flex.

Feel free to look at my gallery if you wish, just don't laugh. Its a labor of love. ;D

That doesn't look bad to me. My boat is in pretty good shape. It has some gouges cause by me and the stupid trailer I have. Yours doesn't look bad at all. Is bottom color factory or was it painted.

Repainted by previous owner as well. They used antifouling paint for a boat that is trailered, I aint figured that one out yet.

One day I may repaint the whole thing but without the antifouling paint.

What kind of trailer do you have?

It's a Sportsman. It has a lever you pull to lift the rollers which lifts the boat off the bunks. If you not careful it will slide off and scrape the side of the rollers. I have repaired a couple of places with Marinetex. That stuff is like cement.

Never heard of one like that. Maybe when you get a camera you can take some pics and post them.

I just finished replacing all my rollers, bolts and jack.
