So it was beautiful but we didn't got to the Chicken Canyon, we stopped 20 miles out at Humpty and trolled around looking for the Stolt wreck. It wasn't at the numbers I had and it is not where the NOAA chart marks it. We picked up a 3 pound Bonito on the troll. We never found the wreck but we did find a giant floating tree full of barnacles. Got up close we saw at least three dolphin and about 100 other fish, triggers, jacks, chubs, and mackeral. I grabbed a freshwater rod with a jig on it and bang, immediately had a 3 pound dolphin. After that we couldn't get a dolphin thru all the other fish. We caught some bait for chunking up in the shark slick. Caught a beautiful 14" mackeral bait
We left the tree and set up a drift on the ledge. The mackeral bait got hit quick, it was a big pull but did not get hookset. Came back with just a head. Then the bonito got hit and same thing, never stuck it. about an hour later a small brown shark came in and we got it on a small bait with a circle hook and a mono leader. Surprisingly he never bit off. He was about 50 pounds. We cut the leader and saved the swivel.
We got back to my dock the guy in the slip next to me was tying up. Big grinns asking us if we got one. He went to the Chicken and had a 90 pound Bluefin on deck.
But I did get a Mahi Sammich out of it, and that ain't bad
