Weight difference

In searching very hard for a 150-175 HP used motor, I am finding that there are a lot more 200 HP. ( all Yamaha ) I am wondering what the weight difference is between 150 & 200, i know there will be a fuel cunsumption difference, any idea how different that is also. I see a lot of guys on this site use 200's so I know the boat can handle it. Just thought I didn't need all that HP and extra weight. A lot more to choose from with the used 200's though. Not sure what to do. any thoughts ?

Not sure on the gas, but 2 stroke is about 450 in pounds, but like anything if you are easy on the gas it will be ok, start flooring it, will be like a hole in the tank!
Start 1994 and newer as thats when the came out with the salt water model and got rid of the steel shift shaft

I'm running a '91 Yammi 200 on my V. Bought 3 yrs ago from someone who thought maintenance was calling a mechanic when it wouldn't start. Boat and motor are better than ever. The Yammi is thirsty, but bulletproof.

I would go with the biggest motor you can find. With the larger hp you won't have to run the motor as hard thus using the same or less gas as a smaller motor having to run harder. I have a 1990 225 yammi and my gph at 30 knots is the same as the 225 optimax on my towboat (commercial 22 whaler). My v20 is lighter and 30 kts comes at 4200 rpms. On the towboat its at 5200rpms

Also my 92 Yammie 150 has the stainless shift rod MJ, I think they came out earlier than 94, mine is a 92

It was replaced before then. It is well known that YAMAHA didn't upgrade until 94 when the saltwater series came out, but then again not all of them rotted out.

serious consideration

Well I think I may have found the best deal FOR ME. In talking to all the local marinas, I keep getting forwarded to this one in particular for rebuilds. Looked out of state but what good is a warranty out of state. Here it is: 1994' Johnson 150 HP being rebuilt as I type. Motor and controls Installed and bay tested with a 90 day warranty on whole job. Everyone tells me he's honest and does excellent work ( even other shops ) $3,500. What do you think ?
