Well, here we go again…..

So we went out today and about 25 minutes, she ran great. Then, she started acting up again. My kid said the bulb was getting sucked in. When I went to check it out, it seemed like one side of the bulb was almost flat. Not really sucked in but not fat and round. I thought maybe it’s possible it was the anti siphon valve, as I never swapped it out. It seemed to work as intended. The pickup tube also seemed ok.
HELP???????

did you unscrew the fuel cap when it was acting up? Check your fuel vent, if its got screen in it, it corrodes over and stops it up

I pulled the vent hose off the tank and blew through it. Aside from getting a blast of gas in my face, it seemed clear. I’m gonna swap out the filter element under the cowl and see if that works. If not, I guess I’ll replace the fuel line from the filter to the motor. That’s gonna be a *****. Hard to work on it while it’s in the water. After that, I don’t know what I’m gonna do.

Where did u unplug the vent hose from, the tank or the fitting on the gunnell?

Should not be any gas in the vent hose, it is higher than the tank. I know some gets in when filling tank, sometimes there is a loop put in to trap water or fuel, but should be able to blow through it with no back pressure

Disconnect both ends and make sure it***8217;s not restricted in any way

On this tank, the vent and fill are on the forward end of the tank, not the stern end ,right?

I think it has already been said - a sure fire way to isolate the issue is to connect to a 5 gallon portable tank. If you don't have one I bet you know someone that does and would let you borrow it. At least you would know which way to look.

I removed both ends of the vent hose and blew through it. There didn’t seem to be any obstruction. Yeah, the filler hose and the vent are both up front.
I’m not sure where I would hook the portable tank. At the filter? At the tank? After the filter?
This is becoming very old, very fast.

look at the screen in the vent, they will corrode up and stop up the vent fitting. If it acts up again, immediately open the gas fill, if it fixes the problem, then you know its a vent issue, not a fuel supply line issue

Next on the list, I believe there are 2 low pressure fuel pumps. When we come out of the water, I’ll address the fuel line from filter/water separator to carbs including the pumps. At that point I will have replaced everything from fuel tank to carbs.
I did not replace the anti siphon valve as it seemed to be functioning as intended.
This week I’ll replace the filter element on the motor and take her out. If this doesn’t solve the issue, we’ll put around for a few more weeks for some close to home blackfishing and we’ll come out of the water a little sooner than planned.
If after changing the entire fuel delivery system it still acts up, I’m gonna list it for sale, get the 15 running and find a little skiff to buzz around the bay for the season.

U put a new Racor filter on recently, so I would hook the tank upstream of that.

I would not think u have a fuel pump issue, you are sucking the ball flat, right.

When u got the boat, you pulled the tank sending unit and cleaned the tank

I don’t think it’s sucking it flat. Just a little flat on one side. Problem is I’ve been running it while my kid checks out the bulb so I’m not 100% what it’s doing. As stated, I’m gonna plan on fishing Wednesday. I’ll change out the filter element at the dock and if that doesn’t fix the matter, we’ll just putt putt over to one of the bridges or the train trestle. We have 3 bridges and the trestle all within 3-4 miles of the dock, the closest being less than a mile. If need be, we’ll blast her up to 6-8 knots and settle in for the long haul. I’ll bring along the portable tank and see if there’s any improvement.

Also, I figure I’ll grab that new anti siphon valve for $12 bucks and slap it on. Maybe I’m missing something. A new pickup will run about $30 bucks so I’ll hold off on that for now. This thing is nickel and diming me to death. Ace hardware is right across the street from the marina so it’s convenient but expensive. West marine is in the same strip mall as ace so it’s a double whammy.
