Hope there's not too much distance between gas pumps where you live.
I didn't have the Hemi. I had the 5.9L and it was horrible on gas. From what I'm told, the newer Hemi versions aren't much better. I was also very disappointed with the transmission.

My buddy has an 06 4x4 just like what you are describing. I have driven it and pulled my boat with it several times. Overall I like it...its a super solid truck with plenty of grunt. The only downfall of Dodges (my Dakota as well) as discussed on here several times is the gas mileage. He gets about 13 around town and mine is about the same. I have never broken 15mpg in my V8 4x4 Dakota, even on the interstate. :-/
I must say I like it alot though and Ill probably own another one when this one is through. 8)

I have an F150 with the 5.4 right now and I couldnt imagine the Hemi being much worse. I only get around 11-12 in the city and maybe tops 16 on the Hgwy.
Chum, I'm not a fan of Dodge trannys myself but from what I understand the trans for the Hemi is pretty good. I know the 5.9's were thirsty, I'm hoping for around the same mileage I'm getting with the 5.4.
Stink, the way I look at it is alot of the V6 trucks and Suvs are only gettin 16-19. For me anyway, I'd rather have a v8 and larger truck than save 3-4 miles per gallon in gas.

MULV, I am withyou on the F-150,
best I did with mine was 16.5, combo of city and hiway,
but I had to do some creative driving, i.e. neutral down hills, cut corners, etc.
I have on occasion rented a Durango on business trips,
bo did I have gas pump shock when I filled it and
I did not drive that much.
You could just tell it did not get good milage.

Mulv, I feel ya man...after towing heavy boats and other loads with a V6 for years its worth it to me.
I hated hooking up the boat to that V6 and hearing it complain every mile of the way.
Plusly I only have a 6 mile commute to work.

Just my opinions: For towing, I want off-idle torque not horsepower at higher RPM. I have a 95 Ram 2500 V10 (488 cubes can't be wrong) with 151K on it. I've been very pleased with this truck and avg 15mpg on the highway to this day. It is equipped with the same (42R ?) auto as comes with the Cummins, so it lopes down the road at low RPM's. My issue truck is a 2005 3/4 ton GMC with the 6.0L Vortec and it downshifts to second gear at 4500 RPM on cruise control constantly, I just cringe when it happens. This is with very little load. When my V10 has seen it's last days, I will opt for the Cummins for outright longevity. I guess it depends on what you want to do with the truck. I'm sure the Hemi would pull a V just great, but at what RPM's and what fuel mileage? My Ram has been very good to me for 12 years and I hope 12 more. One reason I believe is because I hardly work it, even with a trailer in tow. Good luck with what ever you choose.

I'm surprised at you F150 5.4 litre guys ... interstate cruisin' @ 70 has gotten me as good as 20 mpg ... now if I stay in it, that goes down quick, but if it's mileage ya want, ya gotta get that foot outta that firewall ...or at least it works on mine ;D ...

i've got a 95 dodge w/ 200,000 miles(5.9) non hemi' put a tranny in at 125000. get 12,5 mpg in town, on the road, parked, in the driveway etc. it pulls great.
bought a 02 tahoe for my wife with the 5.3? vortec. it gets 14 in town & 19 on the interstate. great ride. when the dodge finally goes, i think i will go with a chevy.
if you do go with the dodge, make sure it is what you want, because you can't get rid of it very easy. the resale is horrible.

Nice looker, but you could not give me a Dodge, I am a hard core Chevy man, I have no down shifting prolmes that you speak of?
As far as gas goes, I think all the trucks are close, I get 15 to 17 city hwy mix
Dodge has always been the worse on gas. But iin these size trucks, they all getting pretty close now, even the new Toyota Tundra says 14 city on there sticker!!
I wiuld be looking for something that is proven to be dependable, not gas at this point.
