Depressing news. Good luck getting back on the water in good time.

Were you pre-mixing or using the VRO pump?

it's a hard call , but i was in the same boat 18 years ago. i bought my 83 v-20 for $6500 in 1990 and the motor went south in 93. at that time a 150 mariner was $6350 and i couldn't stand the thought of sinking that much in that boat at the time. we went 1 summer of me patching the old one and looking for a rebuild deal and missed a lot of boating. my wife finally said either get rid of the boat or buy a new motor and quite whining. it was the best thing i ever did(besides marrying a water lover). if your trying to justify it ecomonically, get out of boating. as i type this i realize my "new" motor is 17 years old.
my dad always told me" if the only complaint you have about something is the price, you got a deal."

Hey MJ...what became of the Yam you took off yours recently?...that was a pretty good motor and shouldn't be too heavy for Willy's boat...

MJ does have a certain knack for comin' up w/some good used OBs...

The best thing about new...WARRANTY!!...

You'll be throttlin' up soon...I'm pretty sure about that...

well i bought that motor (yamaha 225 4 stroke, 200 hours) complete for 7k i had one season but it was to heavy for the Sea Ox kept getting water in scupers as they were under water

a friend bought and did a Seacraft over and wanted it so i swapped hil a 2003 yanaha HDPI 200, 660 hours for it plus $3k

so far so good!!

i will keep my eyes open for ya!!!!

willy, I hate to hear that. Been looking at identical motors since it happened.
They ranged from "$2500 rebuilt/bored" to "$2500-$3500 good clean engine". The powerheads rebuilt alone been running $3000 plus shipping plus core charge.
Hate to hear it willy.

Bummer, I know the feeling mine did the same bloody thing a few years ago only no block damage.

If you see anything used in the Orlando area let me know I can check it out for you. If you like a rebuild power head try Vaun at http://www.powerheadexchange.com let him know Andrew sent you and give you a good deal and quality workmanship, I can pick it up in Tampa bring it to Orlando check with my contact (Freight between FL & NY) or crate it up for you and ship...its the most I can do for a good man ...Good luck and keep us posted..

Need to find out what happened first Willy. If it broke a reed valve theres a chance it just windowed the block and can be patched up. I've seen a few of em with windowed blocks welded back up without even pulling the powerhead(depending upon where it went through). Reed valves breaking is unfortunately fairly common and why I won't run metal reeds in any engine I build up. I've got Bradfords old engine here at the house I could build up for yeah if you want. It lost a cylinder from carbon build-up and stuck a ring. She isn't purty, but I could fix yeah up fairly cheap.

Willy, what a bummer man. If there is anything I can do to help out just let me know. My marina is selling a pair of Yamaha f225's from a repower. I can see if they would sell one to you if your interested.

Wow, Mack Ferm Pete and all you guys are great. Cheered me up just seeing the responses. I needed that.
I will look close by first and see if there are any good deals at hand. Money is a little tight right now so I got to do whats going to give me the best return.
Spent some time with Ozzie on the phone and as usual when I talk to him between us things get a little clearer.
I got to decide first am I going to keep FishBones for the next several years. If I am, going to try to find the newest I can find for the best price.
If I do decide I am going to sell her within a year or two then I am going for used or rebuilt power head.

@ Willy aot of members have responded with help must feel over whelming to have such a great group of mates . hope you find a good deal on a engine and yes these things always happen at the worse time and we all wish that money wasnt a problem . good luck digger

Thanks Aussie, you are right on the money with that statement.
And Oz I hope so.
Still debating and shopping locally, nothing yet.

Dang Willy.....I really hate to hear of your busted motor.

I have to say, having a brand new mill on the transom really is a nice way to go.....no worries at all.

Of course that was a while back for me.....2003....but the feeling lasted for a long time and I felt it was money well spent.

Most of your new motors have 6 year warranties these days.

But I understand the trepidation.....motors are about twice the price now then they were in 03.

Yea Dave those are pretty much what I am seeing up here. 17-19 G's by time you are installed and out the door, with NJ sales tax.
Wow prices have gone up unbelievable.
Looks like it is the used motors for me. Unless Ozzie can float me a loan!
