Tanks out and steerings out

That sounds like a plan whale, are you going to seal the hull be 4 you install the new tank? and how are you planning on fastening it back in.

I had no plans to seal the hull.....it is the same surface as the rest of the bilge so I think it should not need anything. As for how I am securing it, I am still pondering different ideas.

Lumber...

I've solved my dilema about the steeting wheel. Talked to my dealer this morning. He gave me a kit the allows the helm to be recessed into the dash.

We're gonna pull the motor Saturday morning at 0830 so that I can get the old steering out, and install the new rod. Wish it was the new motor going on, but maybe later this summer:drool:

Lumber, how's it going? I've got to download some pics, but as for progress...the helm is in, and the hydraulic lines are hooked to the helm and run to the stern. I was supposed to finish today, but it looks like it may rain all day?

I'm not real satisfied with my helm mounting position. I front mounted mine, as per the instrucutions...it puts the steering wheel a good 2" closer to you. I may have to move the seat back to regain some room. Either that, or look at t a rear mount helm. Not sure what I'm gonna do just yet.

On a side note...I knew there was a good chance that a fuel tank was in my future. The only time I ever got a wiff of fumes was when I filled up. Well, in order to make it easier to run the hyraulic lines, I removed the rod box on that side, and what did I find...my vent line laying in the bottom. Seems the fitting had rotted and fallen apart. Now it looks like I need a $10 fitting instead of a tank. Glad I did this steering job...saved me a pile of money...

Sounds like your making progress air, Iam not sure what my steerings going to look like. Iam sure its going to be ok, Glad to hear you figured out your gas smell, I thought the same thing this passed summer so I had all my hoses replaced and still had strong odor of gas so i decided to yank the tank out this winter and iam glad I did because it was corroded pretty bad around the seams .
