Shark Tournament Saturday

Mako Mania tournament. Heading out on a 31' Edgewater in the morning. Plan is to run all the way to Hudson Canyon if its flat.

Left Barnegat Inlet at 530. 78 nm to Hudson canyon at 38 kts. No sharks. Did catch 42 three pound dolphin on spinning rods. Unbelievable!

Then capped the day with a 41 pound Bluefin and three releases the same size.

BFT were at Texas Tower area (north of Chicken Canyon). Stopped there on the way in from the Hudson. They were balled up in big schools. Looked like a pod of bunker but it was 40 pound tuna. We got one first pass at the school on a bird & Blue daisy chain but then couldn't draw another strike. Decided to continue on home. Ran into another school half mile west. First pass got one on the same rig, then no more strikes. Moved on toward home hit 2 more schools so we all got to reel one in. Didn't even put out the spread just the bird and daisy chain.

Got in at 10PM. Did half assed spray down and met at 9 am today to clean fish & boat. Spent a whole day at it. We biult a quick temporary cleaning table or we never would have gotten thru them.

Enjoyed a Summer Ale, a BFT salad and a Mahi Sammich!!! :hide:

A totally awesome GoPro video is in the works but here are some photos.

I guess you and crew thought that shark fishing may have been better if you had that activity in the morning. Well you still had a great catch to end the day! Now I see why you put the skunk boat on the back burner. I remember that rocket ship blowing bye the step up one day last year on a saturday about 20 miles out of BI. :nice:

Great pics Skunk! The seas look sweet out there, some serious heavy rigs y'all are using, love the sammich pic.

we took the big stuff hoping for a big mako for the tournament. When we gave up sharking and started trolling we put the bird & biggest daisy chain down the middle & long on an 80 International. That was the only thing they would hit.

We did catch the mahi on spinning rods.

Here is a video of Mahi.https://youtu.be/H_7JHmJBwmg

The tuna video is in progress. Waiting on video from another GoPro that was aboard.:pic:
