Etec 200 HO

My 96' V21 with full fuel ( 60 gallons ) two on board (375 lbs), top up and maybe another 50 lbs of gear.........running in the ocean, calm 1' -2' assorted wave action.

Can throttle down to 3,500 and hold plane.......best slow plane being around 3,800 rpm with low to mid 20's in knots......

No fuel meter so maybe burning 8-10 gallons per hour ?
Not sure........

Anyway.........any comparisons, not for mine / yours faster ........just for comparative HP performance.
 
About the same with my 150 ETEC. Will plane at 3500 or so, but seems to have a sweet spot around 4000 for slow planing. Planes out well between 4400-4800 for good decent general cruising, about 28-31 knots. You can tell she's sucking down a lot more fuel past 4500. 14 1/4 X 17 stainless Solas prop. No tabs.
 
Interesting......performance seems fairly close. The 200 HO is 3.3 liter so expect more grunt, but 150 solid.

Back when I had the 150 carb'd it ran 35 + top speed.
Some report as fast as 42 mph with 150.

I forgot what speed I'm getting at 4, 4.5 and 4.8 rpm, but I'll check next time.
Lot depends on sea condition, fuel and load but interesting anyway.

Let's see the WOT rpm and speed.

42 mph at 4,500 rpm is quite fast...........faster than I'm running V21 with 200.
 
Capt Pete, That chrome zamak fitting on the end of that windshield support on Sir Sponge Bob has seen better days. I looked around and couldn't find any spares laying around. A shame they don't make those fittings in stainless..
I am still loving my Optimax too, those are some impressive figures and close to the 250 XS. I bet there isn't spit difference between the two motors, a little timing prolly, that is why they say to run high test fuel in the XS or so I was told...
The 200 HO E-tec is an impressive motor. Underrated, and I love that it is so quiet. I guess the 150 is just as quiet. These two strokes have the punch that the four strokes are striving for. Nearly there IMPO, they have come a long way fast in 4-strokes. I wonder what is in store for the 2-strokes moving forward? Do they have a future with CARB standards getting tighter and tighter. Assume for a moment that they are clean enough, the perception is going to be hard to overcome...Glad the E-tec contingent are pleased with their products. Nothing like a little real world feedback from owners without the agenda...Good stuff

I usually cruise around 4000 rpm's which is usually 30 kts. At that speed I'm getting almost 4mpg. I'm going out tomorrow. I could get a WOT reading but it won't be good. 6 people,cooler,wakeboard,etc,etc. Next time I'm running a lighter load I'll get it.

Thanks for looking. I wish they were stainless too. My boat needs a little love. I have let her go a little.I've been super busy with work. Any free time I get I just jump in and go. I love my Opti too. Plenty of power to get around and super fuel efficient. The best of both worlds
 
I could be wrong, but believe the Opti's may run slightly faster top speeds than the Etec's due to the lower unit racing type low drag profile, and the Merc props.

Efficiency is the goal - fastest speed at all rpm, and best fuel economy.
 
Went out yesterday and thought of y'all.

Me, the Wifey, two 50 pound dogs, cooler full of drinks, ice, and picnic lunch, 55 gallons of gas, no top on the V or the wife. :hide:

Ran 25 knots at 4000 rpms trimmed in pretty close, 30 knots at 4500 trimmed out, 35 knots at 5000 rpms also trimmed out. Pretty clean break down there. Ran both directions in Bull river to factor in the tidal current, light east wind, but the river was very calm wave action wise.

That would be your V with 150 hp Etec ? That's fine performance...and likely easy on the fuel too..........
 
Just posted this in another thread. I have '85 v20. Just ran it for the first time with 2008 etec 200HO yesterday. Didn't have it propped quite right as it was only turning 5100rpm, but at just above 50mph running on glass it started to chine walk. We had a very light load (half tank fuel, no gear, 2 adults). Prop was 21" Viper. Gonna try 19" prop.

That's quite fast with 150 hp.

Based on various posts, the Rebel prop has been touted as best with the 200 HO.
I haven't tried a viper, but you're getting great speed.........let us know how the 19" runs.
