Battery Boxes: What Do You Use?

My 1977 V20 only came with one battery connection. I want to add a second, and get them into a battery box(es). My idea is a single tall 8D box (holding 2 batteries) that straddles the bilge sump. I was thinking this, rather that 2 separate boxes in either corner of the stern to save on extra wiring. I know it's not that much extra, but extra it is.

Thoughts? Pictures? Different location? I'm up for ideas.
 
That is similar to what I want to do. In the second thread, I'd be afraid to drop them right in the sump like that. Maybe there's no problem with it, I'm always leery of water and electricity. I spent 20 years as a millwright, if I can't see how it works, it's voodoo. :)
 
Cant fall down when they are at the bottom!

I have mine in trays on either side of the bilge pit. I run two bilge pumps, not sure there's room for 2 batteries.

In very heavy seas I've had my boxes & straps come loose & found the batteries piled up in the bilge, not good. Hopefully I have it right this time.

Yeah, the more I look, the more I think trays and straps may be the way to go. Thanks everyone for the help.
 
If you go the tray route be advised the USCG Auxillary failed to give me a clean bill of health for not having a proper insulator over the terminals on my V-20. They want to see the little rubber boot, one of the men actually said a tennis ball cut to fit over the terminals would be OK. It is a good idea so that you don't short across the terminals..

I cant believe they even inspected them!!

I have mine in trays but nothing over the top. Never had em tip or move once and Ive put that hull through some crap....
