Smokey, two things come to mind...whenever the budget can stand a carb rebuild, try to do it...did your boat sit for a long period B4 you got it?...
My '86 Evinrude 150 that I had prior to the Honda, tacked out at nearly 6 grand (58-5900)...if you get a chance to try a 15 1/4" diameter x 17 pitch prop on your boat, do it...you might find more top end AND better fuel economy...NOTE: that "near 6 grand" was w/a light load, top down and no wind...
