Death of "HangEmHigh"

It is a sad day today. My brother's Aquasport 290 sunk at the dock in Pompano Beach. We had some great times on that boat.
She's been very neglected for many years since he doesn't live there anymore. But his dock was free so she stayed in the water and the neighbors kept an eye out and ran it once in a while. We already had our annual winter trip planned to "work on the boat enough to go fishing". Heading down in 2 weeks! His buddy had her running and took her out a couple days ago blow the dust off. They scrubbed the hull too. I guess the barnacles were holding her together?
I suppose its our good fortune that it happened now and not out in the Gulf Stream at night, fishing for swords.
So my trip is cancelled and my brother is headed down to lay her to rest.
Here are some memories...

Sorry to hear that Chuck I hope he still left the insurance on her. Well at least you had some excellent fishing and some great memories.

Having lost a big boat myself I know this is a sad day, but I think you are right about when and where it happened.

Sorry to hear Skunk, I agree with Willy, glad she didn't go down with y'all on board offshore. Keep us posted with any details of the salvage operation and what might have caused her to sink.

update...$1000 to raise it (great deal!) no obvious leak found.... in the process of pickling the engines they hooked up a battery...bilge pump dead and LIVE WELL switch ON and draining into bilge...

New batteries, New oil, New starters, new alternators, new relays ....both engines running well. His wife is gonna love that....

fridge, ac, water heater, electric panel disconnected. Luckily dash was not under water so gauges & switches ok

Says he'll be fishing Sunday....

Thats GREAT NEWS!! But what about the engins long term? Were they foged and oil, or rinsed clean of all the salt that they were soaking in??

so HangEmHigh was out catching dolphin to 15 lbs today.

Running good. and liability insurance WILL pay the $1000 to float it.:nice:

He''l probably change the transmission fluid one more time.
Needs a new Fishfinder cause it was down in the cabin.
Autopilot just wants to turn right.
He has a line on a junker of the same model that might have a good electric panel and fridge.

I'm not positive, you'll have to ask one of the old guys but, I do believe this qualifies for membership in The Esteemed Order of the Norton Snaggers.
