So, since I have the transom open, I'm replacing the deck drains. Sounds simple enough.
I wanted to go with a flapper type scupper.
I did not want to have to make the hole in the hull larger.
After researching online and at stores I found that 1-1/2 inch is too big.
The original equip is 1-1/8", sort of...has combo 1-1/8 and 1-1/4 barb.
There is nothing like the original anywhere, the hole required for 1-1/8 is larger now and you can't get them with flappers built in.
I thought I found 1-1/4 in plastic(TH Marine brand) but when I got them they were 1-1/2 and the hole required was 2-1/4. Great Lakes Skipper refunded the $15 and told me to keep them.
So I bit the bullet and dished out $ for stainless 1-1/4 with flappers. I had to widen the holes by 1/4". They are longer and because of the slight angle up, it will effect the drainage.
Now for the other end, in the deck.
Now I need 1-1/4 hose & fittings....not the size to pick!
Finally found a 90deg female thread to barb fitting but no luck in stores with a 1-1/4 drain.
Found an adapter to fit a 1" drain in the 1-1/4 90deg.
(Original deck fitting was actually 1" not 1-1/8" like the thru hull)
Turns out that 1-1/4 90deg fitting is just never going to install high enough to drain downhill to the scupper.
Now thinking of using the original overboard thru hull, cut with a flat edge, and mounted vertically on the aft bulkhead. I will elongate the original hole in the deck and glass it from the bottom, creating a slight depression in front of the vertical drain...if that makes sense?
Has anyone mounted drains on the vertical bulkhead and if so, are you happy with how they drain?
Looking at the picture ,right to left, there is the orig equip drain/hose/thru-hull, the 1-1/4 90deg with some 1" fittings and adapters, an original thru hull with a flat side cut, new 1-1/4 hose that is way too stiff, and a shiney new stainless 1-1/8 scupper.
In order for me to mount the new hose I think I need a 1-1/4 elbow barb because I don't think it'll bend that tight.
Going to try a swimming pool store for the elbow because I know nobody else has 1-1/4.
Wish me luck. This is going to hold up glassing my motorwell back in....v1
