Finally went fishing ...

Between redo of my son's apartment and arrival of my first grandchild, been a little too busy to go fishing. only had the boat out 3 times since Christmas.

Anyway, wife and I went Sunday trolling for Spanish, couldn't find any, but caught about 10 of these, known locally as Hardtails. Great King Mackerel, but no good for eating.

Was just good to go out on a boat and catch a fish

Get ready boys, spring has sprung

Phat, your out there catching something, good for you and your wife. Now lets see some real big ones!!

Hard Tail aka Blue Runners :sun:

That's how I got my handle. I caught a couple from the surf at Hatteras and didn't know what they were. We were keeping about everything that day because we wanted to feed about 8 or 10 people that evening. Ate those, actually thought they weren't bad, but I was young and stupid back then. Now I'm just old and stupid.

By the way, I take it with a grain of salt when someone says a species isn't edible.

Because if you salt it heavily, you can't tell that it tastes terrible. :embarsed:

Thanks G, planning on it. but you know how that goes

Charlie. don't know, over on the Atlantic side, they are called Blue Runners

B, yep, had it 6 years now, been great so far, 760 hours. Still miss the 2 stroke every now and then, but not too much.

Good point. Blue. we used to throw back triggers, B-Liners, and red grouper, now we can't find em fast enough.
