I can't get out for a few more weeks but my buddies are keeping me up to speed. Big cow bass and huge Blues all over Raritan Bay, Bunker everywhere. Fluke are in but 6-8 shorts for every keeper. Weaks scattered but some nice ones being taken at Roamers Shoals and the Tin Can Grounds.
Guys are grabbing 20-30 Bunkers at a time in 10' cast nets and having a field day if they can get the bait down below the Blues.
This is the time I prayed for last year when I got my V and now I'm laid up. Sometimes life comes in and smites you :-/

MJ: Man I got to tell ya, Looking at that big old husky striper reminds me of the hey day of the Chesapeake in the mid 80's. We used to night fish under the Bay bridge lights in july with live pencil eels and once the tide changed all you could hear was drags and clickers whining and guys yelling. No limits in those days as well as unregulated gill netting and thats what screwed it up for everyone and shut down striper fishing all together for 7 or 8 years so they could build back up. One night three of us caught over 40 and 7 were over 35 lbs but we only kept six for the grill and the others were released. I would put Big Stripers and Big Puppy drum in the same category across the board. If you can find them you can catch them, they are not picky eaters, they hit like a freight train and fight like hell all the way to the boat and are excellent baked , fried or broiled...We have a run of the big ones here in Beaufort in december and january but its hit or miss . I got on a school of them under birds last january and caught 4 with 22 pounds being the biggest and that was it.Hatteras on the other hand is much more consistent and I think next year we are going to do a one week run over to Hatteras just for the big stripers....Frank
