Gauging Interest on an 85 Cuddy.

Hey all, new to the forum here and I'm trying to get a feel for whether or not my boat will sell. It's an '85 cuddy with an '86 johnson 200 on an '89 cox tandem roller trailer with new tires and winch cable on a two speed winch. Motor has new coils, new power packs, and new stator with zero hours on them. (I was new to the outboard troubleshooting, so I just started shotgunning parts, thats why it's all new) Whole new water pump, thermostats, and lower unit lube. Boat has a fish finder, cd player, dual battery setup with one starting and one deep cycle. I replaced most of the wiring in the fall. Unfortunately I lost the bimini in the winter. Who knew we'd get 2 feet of snow? If you want I'll throw in a 120 qt igloo as well. I've been replacing the wood trim on the boat as I get the time and I'm working on repainting the motor. I got another kid on the way and we are moving in 2 months and I can't take the boat. I'm thinking of asking $4500 obo. Does this sound like too much or too little? Thats what I paid, but then I sunk tons of money into it and now I'm just trying not to take too much of a hit. I'll add some pics in a couple of days but imagine it in pretty good and clean condition, at least i think so.

Two years ago i would say that was a good priced V. Sounds like you did the right things to her. Nowadays with what I have seen for sale I don't think you will get that much. If I sold my 92 with a 92 motor now I would be asking around 5000.00 and would consider myself lucky to get it. I paid 6500.00 when I bought it and like you did work and upgrades to it.
Just my opinion, either way good luck I hope it moves for you, she sounds like a nice V.

Thanks for the input. I'm willing to flex about 700 or 800 if I need to, but the more money I get out of it now, the better my chances are for getting another boat in the future.

If anybody is interested, let me know. I can't post it on CL for another couple of weeks because I'm leaving going out of town for 9 days and my wife wouldn't even know how to start the thing up to show a potential buyer. Once I get back though, it can be found on the Wash, D.C. CL.

The price is right, but the market is BRUTAL right now. If you can hold off until spring you will have your best shot at getting what you need out of it. I've had my HYDRA-SPORTS for sale now since Christmas and I've only had 1 person come look at it. I know my boat is older and she is ROUGH cosmetically, but I'm asking less than half of what the market value is for her. I'm hoping come spring I can get some interest on it as I really want to move up to a little bigger boat with a cuddy in it for the wife.

Yeah I hear ya. It won't officially be on the market until April but I'm pretty sure the snow is done for now (knock on wood) and the weather is getting there so hopefully I'll get some hits. I'd really like to trade it for a small center console, maybe in the 15 foot range with 60 or 70 on it, but I won't have room for a boat where I'm moving to.

You say you can flex 700-800 in your price. If it were me and I had to sell I'd list it at $3950 and go to $3700 if someone had the cash in hand. There's a ton of boats for sale out there and $3950 looks thousands cheaper and catches a buyer's eye more than $4500. I hate to say it but any money I spend on a boat that I like and plan to keep I consider gone down a black hole. I keep receipts, but stopped adding them up. It'll make ya wanna cry.

Am I just asking way too much for this thing? I have only had one guy come look at it and he said that he just sold his 30 foot cabin cruiser and was looking to downgrade. He drove a brand new Mercedes. Not getting my hopes up on that one.

But really, what the heck? Its been listed for 3 weeks and haven't had any bites. I can't go below 3500 so I can only lower the price a little more before I'm bottomed out.

nice boat brother. unfortunately, they are a dime a dozen right now and personally i dont think it will bring that much. good luck with the sale.

Well, I changed it to $3950. We will see if 50 bucks really makes a lot of difference. I sure hope so.

It's all psychology bro! It sounds a lot cheaper telling the wife your gonna spend thirty nine hundred or so on a hole in the water versus FOUR THOUSAND DOLLAR$.
